Bonds talked briefly just after leaving the Giants clubhouse about a half-hour before the game. When asked if he’d like to do more than just cheer on his former team, Bonds said he would be interested in becoming a hitting coach in the future like Mark McGwire is doing in St. Louis.
“I have a gift and sooner or later I have to give it away,” Bonds said. “I have to share it. Hopefully I’ll get the opportunity here.”

Wow. From hearing him talk the last several years and hearing people close to him talk, it really sounded like he'd never want to go on the road again. I'd love for him to be the Giants coach, but I wonder if he is too good as a hitter to be a coach. It's similar to people who can do calculus naturally but have no idea how to tutor someone.
I don't even think Bonds has retired, so he'll probably want to be a coach and on the 40 man roster.

He'll give it away the first few times but after that you have to pay for it.

The WS American ratings were horrible. Worst in 30 years.
Even worse than the Two Blue Jays World Series!
That's not good.

Its just the way things are. Certainly a match up like the Yankees and Mets, or Red Sox and Dodgers will get better ratings than the Rangers and Giants. However there is much more entertainment choices now, than there was even when the Blue Jays were in the Series. Add to the fact that baseball is becoming less and less popular with kids. I think ratings will continue to slide for years to come.

Yeah it's kind of sad. SF and Dallas aren't small markets either.
What will happen when we get a World Series in a couple of years like Toronto against Arizona or something like that
On the flipside, would anything make baseball more exciting?

There may be a time when the World Series is only available on the MLB Channel or mlb.com. I'm sure that is what the major sports league's kind of want anyway.
I don't consider myself very old, I'm not 40 yet (meaning it just seems like yesterday that I was a kid). When I was a kid, we played baseball a lot when the weather was nice at school. Every recess and noon hour where spent on the ball diamond. I don't think you see that very much if at all anymore.

That's how it is now, its all organized sport. Organized sports isn't a bad thing but as the levels go up, enrollment start to drop off because of skill level, cost, committment, whatever.
Whereas unorganized sport.. or most accurated DISorganized sport where kids just go to a park and play even if there aren't enough players is a good way for kids to be active and love sport. As you said, it doesn't exist anymore.

Just heard that, sad news indeed. Alway's loved him, hell he made an appearance on WKRP! R.I.P Sparky!
