Actually it would be much more. Pollock > Agostino and Jokipakka >>>> Hanowski
Pretty ridiculous really. It's nice having a competent GM.

Was Pollock really ever a better prospect than Agostino?

2nd round pick two years out > 5th round pick three years out
Neither excelling or failing.
At the very least, value wise, you probably have to give it to Pollock, at the time of their respective trades anyway.
Pollock is also more versatile in that he can play all 3 forward positions, where Agostino is just a LW.
I'm not saying it's a big gap, but Pollock was more highly regarded based off draft position alone. Like it or not, draft position does factor into trade value to an extent. Obviously play trumps all but it's not like either player did poorly post draft, or exceedingly well either. They both project to be bottom 6 players from everything I've read as well.

IIRC, Agostino was somewhere in the 'teens' for Pittsburgh in their prospect pool at the time of the trade (might have been close to 20th on their list).
Pollock was in the top 10 for Dallas from the stuff I read.
Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that Pollock > Agostino. What it does mean is that Pollock was a more valuable prospect to Dallas than Agostino was to Pittsburgh. Treliving was able to extract a more important prospect organizationally than Feaster was.

Yeah my point was that all the Flames really got for Iginla was a first round pick. Don't want to go down the Feaster road but neither Agostino or Hanowski were anything close to blue chip prospects. Just the one pick alone may equal the Iginla return. For pending UFA Kris Russell.

This is not taking into account we waited far too long to trade Iggy (his value lessened with each year ticking off his contract) and - more importantly - he had a no movement clause limiting where he'd accept a trade to.
Not fair to compare the returns at all under those circumstances.

Don't know what you mean by "fair". Not trying to judge any GM but if you are a Flames fan, you have to find it extremely fascinating that the return for Kris Russell looks like it will far exceed the return for the franchise's greatest player. Both were rental deals.

One rental could have been traded to Edmonton if Treliving got a deal he liked. The other only wanted to play in Pittsburgh.

That's on Flames management for letting it get to that point.
Feaster/King would've been more than happy to extend Iginla except he wanted out.
Just an awful time period for the franchise, glad it's over.

That's some pretty serious revisionist history going on there.

Not really sure about the Stars chances of getting to the 3rd. If you're not stifling defensively, you need stellar or at least very good goaltending to get that far. They don't have that.

I happen to agree with Flash here (and find it surprising!). I don't think Iginla wanted out merely because he was sick of Calgary. Iginla had stated that he was not interested in a rebuild.
Now in hindsight, that trade didn't seem to do much for the future of the Flames (though I am not writing Klimchuk off, and I think Agostino could be a pretty good 4th liner or maybe even a 3rd liner), but far from the shot in the arm that many felt it would bring to the organization.

Kris Russell available to play tomorrow. Brett Ritchie has lower body injury.

Wasn't it reported that Iginla wasn't interested in signing an extension?
That is pretty much tantamount to 'wanting out' in my eyes. I don't blame him though, the team was a mess at the time and he was getting older.

Yeah there were a bunch of reasons why the Russell return looks better than Iginla's. That is the point. It's interesting because of the relative disparity in the quality of the two players.
So you are suggesting what? It's not a curiosity at all that Kris Russell returns more than a first ballot Hall of Famer? Or are you just looking to argue?
