Parekh is listed at 6'0 185lbs, Hughes 5'10 180. He'll be fine

As far as defenders go, he's definitely in the mold of the smaller more mobile offensive guys. He's already bigger than Hughes and the same size as Makar and Fox.

I doubt Parekh's primary job will be to shut down the Tom Wilson's of the other side. Parekh is the future offensive QB.
Absolutely he is the future PP QB. My focus is on his own end though. That's the first priority. If he shows he can handle it then fantastic!

It’s not something any additional bulk is really going to help with though, and not something he’s going to learn in the OHL. AHL would be ideal, but given it isn’t an option, the NHL makes the most sense for his development next year.

Very good chance he deserves to be on the team and could be top 3 dman on the team. Can't send him down if he is ready whether he has warts in his game or not.

To this point, the expectation can’t be that he’s going to be a stud out of the gates. Keep him up, give him PP time and sheltered minutes elsewhere, let him make mistakes and learn from them.

He’s going to have bad games. He might have a rough year (or two!) but you let him grow and nurture the elite parts of his game while he works on the shaky areas.

How nice is it going to be to have a player that thinks the game fast and can start plays with outlet passes out of the zone. Every sign is that he brings that, so such ability will be worth the price of admission alone for me.

It feels like since we lost Johnny and Noah that we get our heads caved in a lot against opposition forecheck because of panic/desperation giveaway clearance attempts.

Interesting note from Friedman about the Hawks retaining salary in the Rantanen deal and if they should have gotten more:

Quote:
The NBA’s Utah Jazz were the middleman in the massive Doncic deal. ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that Jazz president Danny Ainge didn’t know Doncic nor Anthony Davis were involved “until about an hour before it was completed … But by then it was too late to do much about it.”

Kind of funny it happened a week after the Blackhawks were criticized for not getting more out of eating part of Rantanen’s salary. I asked around about this: should the Blackhawks have changed their minds, or asked for more? “How do you feel about breaking your word?” was the general response.

One thing everyone understood: GM Kyle Davidson wasn’t told specifics because Colorado demanded secrecy from Carolina. A couple executives said that, in this situation, you know what you’re being asked to retain, so you’re guessing who it could be. And, they bet Davidson was given a higher number than actually needed, to make it harder to guess who it was. Apparently, that’s a regular tactic.

From this week's 32 Thoughts blog, Friedman kind of sort of links Soucy to Calgary but not really

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...ted-territory/

5. As expected, the Canucks quickly extended Marcus Pettersson at six years, $33 million. That was not going to be a difficult negotiation. The left-side jam made Carson Soucy available. Not an easy year for him, but I like Soucy — who played his weak side during Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Colorado. Very good for Vancouver in last year’s playoffs, and effective when Seattle beat Colorado in 2023. He can help someone. Calgary makes sense (he’s from Alberta), but the Flames want to see some Ilya Solovyov.

Makar is the same height as Parekh and outweighs him by 2 pounds.

Huberdeau was listed at 6'1", 171 lbs in his draft year. Now he's over 200lbs. Parekh could have a playing weight over 200 as well. If he decides he needs to.

If St Louis goes into a rebuild, flames should be trying to get kyrou.

Also why we heard it was Taylor Hall traded first.

Almost positive the leak came from the Chicago side then.

Just thinking out loud here:

Not sure if Pelletier and Kuzmenko have made it to the US yet, but if not, could this be a stumbling block for Canadian teams making trades with American trades for the next little bit? Obviously there's a bunch of turmoil happening down south right now, and who's to say a GM from an American team will want to risk being without his new players for a potentially extended time while things get figured out? Time will tell I guess...

They will be in the lineup on Saturday. Paperwork is done but weather cancelled their flight yesterday. This is as per media outlets in Philly.

He's 26, I doubt he needs to be traded as part of a rebuild, where teams ship out older players.

He's a year older than Morgan Frost.

This has nothing to do with the current situation. It is simply a function of the US VISA program, which can be difficult at times. Nothing new.

In the grand scheme of things, they have missed 3 games. GMs are concerned with acquiring the best players possible. If a VISA issue results in a 3-game delay, so be it, but that's not a reason to avoid acquiring said player.

This is accurate.
I'll add the one curveball here is the pieces were fluid and discussions to trade happened in less than 12 hours.

In most cases teams have spoken in great detail and can start the visa process before the trade is made public.

So Colorado was in on JT Miller (tough, older, talented centerman). They ditched Rantanen and his payday.

We are somehow looking to add Cozens which gives a strange looking mix of Kadri, Cozens, Frost, Backlund down the middle (15 mins a night each? 16,16,16, and 12?).

I believe Kadri wants to stay, can nix a deal, etc. But doesn't this kind of line up as a three way with Buffalo?

If Buffalo are into doing stupid things, and the rumblings about Power availability are true... I wouldn't worry about Cozens. Keep Kadri, and see if you can turn Andersson into Power. Sell Rasmus to a third team, and use all of the acquired assets to send to Buffalo. Add Bruz or Poirier, if that's what's need as an add.

This is on the tail of Rasmus not willing to go to Buffalo, and although I love him as a player, not fitting our timeline.
