It really is looking like the Oilers have managed to flub the rest of the McDavid era. It was the easiest set-up ever to be successful. All they had to do was overpay for some defensive dmen and forwards. Instead they went all in on offence. Love to see it.

Surely the up and coming young gun Calvin Picard will save the season! Picard being a spy young up and coming prospect with 116 games played, and 31 years old. Jack Campbell was too old and far gone to make a difference, with his best days behind him, at the age of 31.

I don't know how you could blame goaltending when their D zone coverage is that bad.

Somebody needs to help me here cap wise.
Campbell is on a 1 way deal with a 5 million dollar AAV
The oilers have 442k in cap space.
Either rookie goalie is going to make $775k when they come up.
If i understand the rules, his aav still counts towards the cap even if he's on the farm. So bringing up a goalie is going to put them over the cap right?

They save league min + something else minor I think. They will gain a tiny bit of cap space when they call up Pickard

Oops. You forgot the Magic LTIR rule. All of a sudden Campbell has a really bad, uh, groin, yeah, that's the ticket. Pulled groin. LTIR. Cap solved.

Someone can maybe confirm but.....
One way deal only means they get paid that no matter if in NHL or minors. You can be sent to minors and have 1 way deal. Two way means you get a different salary if in minors.
But this allows them to bury $1.15mm of Campbell's huge cap hit. The rest ($3.85mm) stays on the books. Pickard makes $762k.

I am sure that putting their #1 goalie on waivers will do absolute wonders for his confidence...
