When you put it like that, the plan looks like a total ripoff. I'm assuming you got the $17.50 plan + $11 value bundle + $30 Data + $0.50 911 + $6.95 SAF = $55.95 + tax??? What else did you get to bring it to $73?

17.50 for the voice, plus 15 bucks for visual voice mail, call display, text messages, plus 6.95 system access fee, 30 dollars for data +GST.

That = 65.95, not 55.95.
(and the VVM plan is $15, not $11 - so that's 69.95 * 1.05 (GST) = $73.45)
Oilers, I'm assuming that $17.50 plan is the special insider promotion plan you get if you work for a company that qualifies?

No, it's just a special plan they have right now. It expires at the end of this month, along with the 30 dollar data plan. My mom used to work for Rogers, and the plan I have had for years was an old employee plan. The only thing better about that, was I had free text messages and caller ID. This new one with Fido has more minutes than I am used to, and evenings start an hour earlier at 5:00pm.

But I do want to thanks everyone in this thread that has answered my dumb questions for months now. I like my gizmo's and gadgets, but I generally have no clue about them, other than that I know I want it. So thanks.

Hmmm... There used to be a special 17.50 EPP that had something like 200 mins, E/W at 5pm and unlimited incoming calls.
Anyway, it sounds like you took care of it and got a decent plan. Nice job.
Here's a couple of links to get started, if you don't already have them:
http://www.macrumors.com/iphone/
http://forums.macrumors.com/forumdisplay.php?f=124
Edit: Now you can join the race to be the first person here to accrue data overage charges on their 6GB plan!

Yeah that's a peeve of mine.
You can't attach an item to an existing email... if you want to email a photo, you have to open the photo (in the Photos app) and then hit the menu at the bottom. It will then allow you to email that photo to someone.

That worked fine. I don't mind that process at all. Thanks for explaining.
Now this: When I try to reply from my iPhone to email, I get an error msg that the email address doesn't exist. All I'm doing is replying to an email so the address clearly does exist. These emails are sent to my iPhone from my regular server as was set up by a friend of mine. Can someone tell me how to correct this?

I know when i try to reply to an email it tries to make me use my mac email address. It won't work unless I touch the "_____@me.com" and select my other email address from the list.

You may need to call Apple tech support for that. You can also try their online support site at http://www.apple.com/support

That's just a setting thing. You define your Default Account in the Mail, Contacts and Calendar settings. Your Default Account is the one that will come up whenever you try to initiate an email from any application. If you want to initiate an email from a different account, you'll have to physically toggle that account in the email (the way you're already doing it). If there's a certain account that you send most of your emails from, just set it as the Default Account so it always comes up.
(If you just reply to an email it will use the account that received the email you're replying to.)

That looks like a pretty good plan. Is there no charge for anyone switching to Fido from Rogers? I have a year left on my contract but am looking to get an iphone now.
I suppose Rogers doesn't honour Fido plans. Is Fido as reliable as Rogers? I have never had a dropped call or quality problems with Rogers.

Fido uses the same network as Rogers (Rogers owns Fido).
One thing I like about Fido is they have per-second billing.

It seems that anyone with over a year with Rogers, can switch to Fido free of charge. I had over a year and a half left with Rogers. The plan is good...but it gets expensive with the data added.

I'd be interested in switching to Fido right this second if I am allowed to, I have 3 years on my Rogers now with the iPhone...
I like Fido's per second, so I could save a bunch of minutes.

Go to a Fido store and see, it can't hurt. I was surprised when they let me do that, I didn't expect it at all.
Do you guys think it is worth it to buy a case for the iPhone from the Fido store for 35 dollars, rather than waiting and getting one from eBay? I would like the iPhone protected right now, but if there are far better options on the internet, I can handle waiting and just being careful with the phone.

Strangely enough, it only takes about 1 week to get a shipment from a Hong Kong eBayer. I don't know exactly the type of case you want, but I was able to get a number of silicone iPhone skins for less than $0.50 shipped to Canada off eBay. Some were even as cheap as $0.05. At that price, I bought a bunch and just use the best ones.

Yeah that's true. I've bought things from Hong Kong before, and they arrive faster than anything shipped from Canada or the US. It's weird. Maybe I'll do that too...I just hope I don't get a scratch in the next week.
