The only way the Flames should be rightfully skewered is if you also gave them four 1st overalls and they managed to f### it up worse than the Oilers have.

They were never given that opportunity, so really there's nothing to compare or feel shame about.

If the Flames got that run of picks culminating in McDavid, how many cups do they have at this point? I'd think it's higher than 0.

Then stick to wanting the Flames to do better. That’s something we can all get behind, but there is absolutely nothing about the Oilers that we should ever try to emulate in order to get there.

Just think if the Oilers win the cup this year it’ll make it way easier to stomach when they win next year and the year after. It’s like having kids. By the third one you barely even care that it exists.

And this is neither the time nor place...like someone else said, read the room.

Silver lining? Blowing a series lead in the Finals to lose the Cup.

I’m officially withdrawing my prior post officially giving up.

McDavid - #1 overall
RNH - #1 overall
Draisaitl - #3 overall
Nurse - #7 overall
Bouchard - #10 overall
Skinner - #78 overall
Trade for Ekholm
Trade for Walman
Trade for Kulak
Trade for Henrique
Trade for Frederic
Trade for Podkolzin
Arvidsson UFA
Hyman UFA
Klingberg UFA
Perry UFA
Brown UFA
Kane UFA

They have used all three avenues of player acquisition pretty evenly.

6 drafted players
6 players traded
6 players UFA
1 player waivers

I mean the Oilers are winning because they have arguably the 2 best forwards in the league. That is literally the only reason.

Look at the 3rd goal tonight. One player in the league makes that pass. It is what it is.

Dont start this nonsense...they are here because they won the McDavid lottery. Trading Lane Hutson for Kulak is hardly a win. Their "good" drafting was conencus picks after being ####ty (while trying to compete)

Any fan of any team who’s saying this series is over didn’t watch what I just did. Just got home, this is gonna be a grind of a series. They are evenly matched with both having some edges over the other in certain areas. The panthers are elite at creating turnovers and regrouping quickly, they bring lots of pressure. The oilers can stretch the ice on them when they are moving their feet and supporting the puck.

I have zero clue which way this series will go.

Anyway, Scorp, I’m not trying to dump on you or anything. Apologies if I’ve been overly aggressive. I was mad about the loss and that definitely crept its way into my posts, but message is still valid. E is just quite simply NG.

Jesus, the vibe in here is terrible. It’s game one and Florida didn’t even come close to their potential in this game. Did we really expect a Florida sweep? Series far from over.

Winning the first game at home is just holding serve.

That's really all it is.

When an away team takes a game off the home team is when a series actually takes a turn towards being "decided".

Congrats to the Stink though on not getting swept.

Exactly, if the Panthers buried one of their early OT chances I certainly wouldn't be saying "its over" I don't think anyone would have and it would have been an even bigger win being on the road.

Yup, never in trouble till you lose at home, neither team has done that, neither team is in trouble.

The Panthers can still win this series.

It just made me mad the way the lost. It's one thing to lose a hard fought battle. It's another to dominate and then completely fold after the 2nd period and seemingly throw the game.

Every team does this. They stop playing against the Oilers. Stop hitting, stop shooting, can't string 2 passes together. Like wtf.

Panthers were good to start OT IMO...they had a few really good looks.

Good media fodder for FLA to pin on their wall:

EDM Journal headline: “Oilers send Panthers a loud and clear message in Game 1”.

Really.

All you can really do at this point is put a bag on McDavid to win the Smythe and turn the television off till the series is over. Hopefully the Panthers come back and win, but at least there's a small ray of sunshine if they lose. It's probably best to avoid the NHL for next season as well, as all the talk will be about the Oilers repeating. Gross.

Lol you'd think their finals loss last year would instill an iota of humility.

Not with the Oilers!

Trumpet the self-felating from the roof after 1 game decided in OT.
