I agree. He's been a high end finisher his entire career (dating back to Junior).
He would have 31 goals right now if he was shooting at his averages over the previous two seasons. The chances of him "bouncing back" are extremely high.

Rob Kerr on the After Burner said that Murray Edwards hired Darryl Sutter, not Treliving.
Kerr said he knows this for a fact.
They were about to acquire Zucker, but they needed Edwards' permission, and Edwards wasn't available. Boomer said that this has happened many times.
I had heard rumors of these things, but I didn't know they were conclusive.

Not a shred of reality if that’s the case man. Never mind he led a team to what should have been success just last year, 300 days of big bad boss and you just get to decide to not try because you don’t like them personally.
Embarrassing.

This is so out of touch with reality.

If anything all that type of response does is unveil some pretty discouraging insecurities about Flames fans. The Flames have been a better team over the last 30 years, no need to have a cry the second anyone notices something they're doing that is a positive.

Ben Bishop was the other case where supposedly they had a trade made but needed Edwards sign off, and he couldn't be reached. Think that was 16-17 and then Bishop was traded to LAK instead.
The Darryl Sutter hiring always seemed to be obviously a Edwards hire. Don't think Treliving necessarily opposed it, but I do think that Sutter was the only coach Edwards would probably open up the chequebook for.

I have no idea where to put this but I do wonder if Treliving will be a potential fit for Pittsburgh in the offseason. I think Hextall is in big trouble especially looking at how all these great Philly prospects he drafted failed to really turn into much. The Pens might miss the playoffs and are committed to winning.
If Burke stays on as President and names a new GM I could easily see Burke hiring Treliving a second time. Tree gets a new opportunity and gets to manage one of the best players ever.

This isn’t how a professional sports organization is supposed to be run. But I guess it’s no shock with Edwards in charge.

It always bothered me, but I didn't argue it, when posters cried foul if a person brought up Darryl not being a Treliving hire. I mean, none of us could prove it but it seemed so obvious. The truth is slowly coming out on that, so we were right, but the opposition to it was borderline aggressive.

A coattail-riding-barely-relevant-moron who clearly and decisively outcoached "The Legend" in the 2nd round last season and has his team in the playoffs with similar points to Tampa and Colorado. I wish we had a coattail-riding-barely-relevant-moron that could generate a second round playoff victory and have his team solidly in the playoff hunt.

outcoached? the Flames got .875 SV% for the series - not sure any coach could survive that...and still if not for a blown no-goal call, who knows?
edit: correction .852 SV%

I am not sure why it was a bad thing that Edwards hired Sutter. Treliving hired several bad coaches.

First off
I didn't call anyone a moron. your words not mine
secondly
Woodcroft is hardly the reason that they won in the second round. Markstrom plus the Hyman and Kane additions to that team had much more influence. The oilers had good coaches that didn't help them. a few additions to that team to improve their depth is the reason they have improved. Not Woodcroft.

I do think there were some adjustments Sutter could have made.
He didn't line match the McDavid line once they combined him and Drai.
The man to man defense was not working against those two either.
And our aggressive pinching and forechecking system in the offensive zone was leading to us getting caught and giving up a ton of odd man rushes.
Goaltending wasn't good either, but I do think there were some things Sutter could have done to try to slow down 97 and 29 and it didn't happen.

fair point and not putting in Vlader is on Sutter too but to say Woodcroft is a good (or better) coach? not sure about that.

I am and still pro Sutter for what he has done and the career he has, but he is dunzo. I could be wrong and the players we have assembled are just rotten folks...but unfortunately we have hitched our wagon to them...and that wagon cannot be unhitched for a (way too) long time.
I know a guy who played for Sutter, respects his brain but he is a massively sarcastic person who is very intelligent so what he says is deeply cutting. We don't even know the back story of what small comments come out. Rhetter (another player who is his prototypical player and thrived under him) just loves him, he stays at Sutter's place at his kids hockey tournies in Viking. If he is talking ####, there is smoke.
Why is this work place any different from anywhere else? Add three zeros to everyone's salary and it is the same, except everyone has massive mobility options and value, top of their profession, so you have choices, unlike you or I, even if you signed a contract.
Your whole life, you have been the best and told as such (Sutter included). If anyone looks like they hsve quit or are mailing it in, it looks like Sutter.
But I think the players, coach of the day, Treliving is just hand wringing. Its the owner. He absolutely takes pride for never laying anyone off. Which sounds pretty altruistic. They make you so miserable that you quit. That's how he runs his business. He is ruthless and petty. You invest in Murray Edwards, you do not work for him, unless you are a mindless soldier.
Works great for an Oil company where employees are paid orders of magnitude less than their boss, but not in the NHL apparently.

It's not that surprising that Darryl was an Edwards hire as Darryl has always been his guy. It's why many of us surmised it was the case. As a fan I can't complain about an owner like Edwards that pays the bills and stays out of headlines however it sure seems like the organization would be in a much better place if he was hands off.
