Very frustrating but I have almost no confidence in him doing anything 5 on 5. He hasn't even gotten the job done on the PP either. Just brutal.

Reminds me of the Anaheim series. Flames doing very little 5 on 5. That concerns me a great deal.
Realistically, they have rest of this game and Wednesday to find something.

When will people realize that the Flames record and placement in the regular season is irrelevant?
It’s a new season folks and things are not pretty.

Soft calls and some poor play. The flames can turn this around, but it’ll start with focusing on executing, not chasing. Our top line looks brutal, haven’t seen a decent cohesive play from that group in far too long.

Credit where credit is due - the Avs have the eye of the tiger. They're playing with that sustained intensity that can take a team a long way in the NHL playoffs.
Remains to be seen if the Flame have a response. Pretty clear that the team racked up a lot of goals and wins in low-intensity games in mid-season. We don't really know how this team reacts to high-intensity play against a team that's really feeling it. I guess we'll find out.
Two guys who have been absolutely invisible: Jankowski and Lindholm. Jankowski, I'm not surprised. I think he's just a soft player who lacks another gear. Surprised at Lindholm, though. The guy has a motor that doesn't quit, but he seems completely lost out there. Maybe it's all the time on the PK so he can't find a rhythm. But with teams keying on Johnny, and Monahan in a funk, it's time for Lindholm to step up and show he can be a difference-maker.

Look at Mackinnon and compare him to Monahan.

You know he can still be a #1 C and not be as good as Mackinnon, right?
Monahan's scored in the playoffs just fine too, he just hasn't tonight

This is where the criticism of Monahan being a #1 C are justified.
He just can't dictate and make a significant impact in the game. He's a great complementary player, but not a impact player.
Flames lack having a impact player that can hold their own physically. Gaudreau is too small and too soft to be that player. No response for MacKinnon on the other side.

I don't agree with some of the calls the Avs got, and what they missed. With that being said, Avs' compete level is on another planet compared to the Flames. Their 200 ft game is miles ahead of what the Flames are doing, they are making more plays, they are playing with a lot more grit as well. They are doing everything better than the Flames at this point.
Hopefully the Flames take this intermission to reset. Let's see how they come out in the 2nd. They at least need to match Colorado on their compete level at least.

Am I a terrible person for wanting to slap Makar's parents every time I see them celebrating their son's first NHL goal? Rhetorical question..

Flames have been out played all playoffs in my mind... Game 1 they atleast tried to beat the Avs, but were a little lucky. Thanks Smitty for that win or it could have been 3-0 Series lead by the Avs at the end of this one.
Flames better start playing Calgary hockey in the 2nd and 3rd and turn this game around, not impossible but an up hill climb
If they come back the series is over, if they don't then they better at least start skating and shooting again.
Series is far from over, but this has been ugly....
