I think Wyllis was linked mentally with his future self and "Hodor" was telling himself that he needed to hold the door. As his future self was dying, Wyllis' saying hold the door was getting slurred more and more until the moment of his death and "Hodor" was born. That was the point the connection was severed and it froze his younger self saying Hodor from that point on.
Wyllis was "struggling" looking as if he was pushing back against the ground during his seizure, but as Hodor was dying at the hands of the wights, his seizure was calming down as the life force of Hodor faded.

That last scene was probably one of the best in the show far, first time I actually felt bad for a character dying. Hodor was one of very few (if not the only) characters in the show that had no bad in him.

Well when you think about it, Hodor was trying to keep that door closed, so....

It's almost as if "Hold the door" has different contextual meaning if your setting is a modern elevator vs. a wight infested weirwood cave and tunnel network.

Why would the dryads turn on the Walkers, when they created them?
I thought they could have trusted the viewers a bit more in the last scene. They really hammered home that Hodor came from Hold The Door. We get it.
Best episode in quite some time. Really liked the play that Arya watched.

Besides the Hodor scene I thoroughly enjoyed the Pike scene, Uncle Almost Drowned is an interesting character and love the idea of sailing East to see Dany.
Arya's storyline is a tad slow but it's obviously a major arc for her. The stage play of Ned's execution with her watching was poignant.
Stage Play Sansa had some fantastic breasts.

"Theon and Yara, the Drowned God demands your presence at your uncle's very important coronation ceremony!"
"err yeah...see you there...just gotta hit the bathroom first. yes, both of us at the same time really gotta go, you know how it is. brb!"

Hodor always had a small minor role that was kept brief but interesting. Obviously they skipped a full season with the Bran story, but you never rolled your eyes when Bran and Hodor got some screentime in season 4, and now in season 6, it was always an interesting story, albeit one that didn't quite make much sense.
Its obvious that the writers are capable of interesting stories, but they are also capable of not so interesting stories that get way more screen time than they should.
Hodor didn't get more or less than he should have. He got what was needed to tear people up in the last episode. That is what we all want. Not random Sand Snake BS.
Even Sam's story, who I think got a little too much screentime and is an annoying character in general, wasn't as bad as the Sand Snakes storyline.

Jon being killed and the Red Wedding are up there as well. But yeah, great scene.

I think shock was more of the feeling I got with the Red Wedding & Jon being killed. The Red Wedding was utterly surprising to me, and I couldn't believe that GoT killed off so many main characters (from the same family!) in one episode. Jon getting killed wasn't as surprising, but still shocking to me to see how they did it. But Hodor's death has been by far the most emotional for me. Maybe it's because he's the only character in the story who has no agenda at all, or the way he went. The fact that his life was basically hijacked from him, and he still did everything he could to help. Regardless, I didn't feel anywhere near the same level of emotion with either Jon or Rob.

I feel like I'm the only one on the planet who thought the Sand Snakes coup was awesome
Also, it definitely feels like this week was the moment that Arya starts to realize she can never let go of her identity.

I think the problem with Dorne is you had a bunch of characters most viewers didn't really care about battling it out for Dorne, not the iron throne. These characters had very little character development and no one was too attached to them and were after a minor prize in terms of the show.
The death of the Lannister was important for most viewers, but everything else seemed secondary in importance.

For me Jon's death and rebirth was very predicable. You could see it coming a season out so that one didn't get me. And with no one respecting spoilers anymore you new that he had a role in this season so that confirmed he was coming back. Along with the story about how the show runners got the job by explaining what should happen with Jon.
To me the resolution of this show has been obvious for a while now. Its pure theory with no book knowledge below but just in case no one wants to see it.
I think Arya is really the only real plot line that doesn't have a clear answer to where it is headed.

They've handled it badly for sure. A big part of the problem is them killing the only interesting character from that realm. But Dorne holds a grudge, and they will be important in the future I'm sure. There's zero chance they don't align with Dany when she comes over.
