According to Aaron Portzline, the Blue Jackets have shifted their ask for Laine and are now asking for picks/prospects.

We can rule out the Flames. We aren’t trading picks and prospects for a roster player.

Don't forget last year's TDL hopeful, Phil Kessel = Gravy Boat.
Would love the gravy boat on the Flames for one year, just for the jersey. 3 time cup winner has to know something, right?

We're gonna need a bigger boat.

A 6th, 7th, Boltmann and Kerins meets the criteria.

I also just can’t see where he fits in the line up. The flames have so many wingers and they have two right-hand shot goal scorers that will be looking for opportunities on the powerplay (Sharangovich and Coronato). Bringing in Laine would just create even less opportunity for them.

We need centers. There are a lot of younger wingers and dmen.

This statement reminds me of the classic GM Darryl Sutter quote (paraphrased):
Broadcaster -- "what are the prospects of making any trades by the deadline"
Darryl - "we aren't trading any prospects"

I don't think I'd even fork that up, Laine shouldn't bring assets in at that price tag and with the PAP involvement.

I would trade Porier.
The Flames have three offensive minded D men ahead of him.
Parekh, Brzustewicz, Morin
There are also two D first type players on the depth chart in
Grushnikov, Soloyvov and if you really wanted to count him Kuznetsov
and then you have a guy like Mews who is ready to fill in some gaps in 4 years.

I think the only person actually ahead of him on the depth chart is Parekh.

Fan rankings aren't the same as what the actual team thinks. He could be 4th on the actual team depth chart but he is by far the closest to making the team. If Poirier didn't have the freak injury and had a similar year in the AHL he wouldn't have been 4th in the fan rankings either. Morin regressed and still finished ahead of him.

So are we rebuilding? Or trading picks and prospects for junk with large cap hits?
We can take picks and prospects for reclamation cap dumps.
We are accumulating picks and prospects not trading them.

They should be packaging something like that with Laine to get rid of him. No way I'd give up any one of those things.
