Huberdeau is more like a tanker than a yacht.

No Tankers actually provide a service for society. Yacht's just cost money.

Ohh now that's an interesting way of phrasing that...people get commissions to help facilitate a move.
Because in the case of Marner, the Flames could hypothetically be 3rd party to eat some of his contract for the season to help facilitate a trade now.
That might actually be worth a 1st.
I don't set the "Commission's" on these things but if it was up to me:
30% of $10.9M = $3.27M = 2nd round value
50% of $10.9M = $5.4M = 1st round value
The only issue is it eats one of the Flames salary retention slots for the season...but really Kuzmenko is probably really the only guy you are going to move that needs the salary retention this year and you'd still have that slot for him.

Except it's only kind of helping Treliving, it would more be helping the acquiring team.
Marner is slighly overpaid at $10.9M but in a world where Konecny is getting $8.8M and Guentzel is getting $9M it's not that much of an overpayment.
So really it's doing a favour to the acquiring team to be able to fit him in without having to make drastic alterations to your lineup elsewhere.

Oilers = Titanic
Claim to be the best, media hypes them up, this team can't possibly lose, hits catastrophic failure before reaching their goal.

But will they fire HC Garlic mid-season?
After MacTavish they had 10 coaches and average about 116 games per HC. That means Knoblauch has about 50-60 games left, before McDavid gets lucky coach #7.
Hopefully they promote GG.

It helps Tre too, he isn't just trading Marner to dump cap, he is doing it so he doesn't walk for nothing. I assume he isn't trading Marner for future considerations. Whoever trades for Marner is giving a decent roster player back.

The Titanic wasn't a bad ship. It was a good ship that was exceptionally unlucky.
The oilers are more like the russian carrier Admiral Kuznetsov. A poorly designed ship that was poorly built under the direction of unqualified people in higher positions where everyone stole from the project along the way. Presented by local media as a powerhouse and the greatest ship ever designed, it can't accomplish its one purpose and instead just blows smoke wherever it goes.

Nothing earth shattering lately, I apologize it’s been very quiet.
The only real news I heard was that Demidov is staying in the KHL this year.
Montreal was hoping to bring him over this year and develop him in NA with a buyout but it won’t be happening.

No need to apologize. This is the doldrums of the NHL offseason, after July 5th you never expect there to be much news.
It's why I'm bugging Sec214...the fact that there is any hint at all during this time of the season is intriguing in itself because it so unlikely anything happens in late July or early August in the NHL.

Huberdeau is a second hand yacht that we bought on credit at 10% interest without taking it for a test drive. Then the engine blew on our first trip out to sea and we're having to paddle it back to shore
