Explain. How do you do that with duly elected representatives? They have a right to be there and they don’t play nice. Yet the country still needs laws and budgets to be passed otherwise it grinds to a halt.

I read this earlier and it reminded me of something i had read....took me forever to find it then like magic the author just popped up on msnbc and i found it right away.
Quote:
President Trump is facing a test to his presidency unlike any faced by a modern American leader.
It’s not just that the special counsel looms large. Or that the country is bitterly divided over Mr. Trump’s leadership. Or even that his party might well lose the House to an opposition hellbent on his downfall.
[The author of this Op-Ed will publish a book in November 2019 titled “A Warning.”]
The dilemma — which he does not fully grasp — is that many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.
I would know. I am one of them.
To be clear, ours is not the popular “resistance” of the left. We want the administration to succeed and think that many of its policies have already made America safer and more prosperous.
"There is literally no telling whether he might change his mind from one minute to the next,” a top official complained to me recently, exasperated by an Oval Office meeting at which the president flip-flopped on a major policy decision he’d made only a week earlier.
The erratic behavior would be more concerning if it weren’t for unsung heroes in and around the White House. Some of his aides have been cast as villains by the media. But in private, they have gone to great lengths to keep bad decisions contained to the West Wing, though they are clearly not always successful.
It may be cold comfort in this chaotic era, but Americans should know that there are adults in the room. We fully recognize what is happening. And we are trying to do what’s right even when Donald Trump won’t.

He wrote this anonymously a couple years ago but when he resigned in October he claimed it as his and has gone further with it.
He also touches on the fact that bringing in the 25th was discussed as far back as 2 years ago.
Long story short...as bad as this has been it could have been worse is the message from him and others.

You call their bluff and grind it to a halt, then. Even without Covid, even without Trump, normal wasn't working in this country. Wages are stagnant but everything is rising in costs. We're losing necessary tax dollars because we keep giving in when the GOP cuts funding for the IRS and lowers taxes on the 1%. Our schools are dying, our infrastructure is a mess, our healthcare system is FUBAR, we're spending nearly a trillon dollars on defense on an annual basis but we can't ever audit the Pentagon to see where that money goes. (I realize that Democrats are far from blameless on many of these topics, but the GOP is really hammering the collective political line to the right)
At some point you have to realize how dramatically far right we've already drifted and stop the bleeding. Republicans have shown that they have zero desire to actually govern, only retain power, they refuse to compromise or work within the rules, why the hell should Democrats have to be the ones constantly giving in and screwing over the American people in the process?
At some point one of the adults in the room needs to stand up and refuse to work with people who flat out will not do their jobs.

Expanding the supreme court and giving DC and PR state status seem like no brainers at this point for the Dems... if they are in any way shape or form serious about protecting the country from a future of ReTrumpican fascism. Of course, they won't do it though. Which makes you wonder whose interests they are really serving...
There is a window of opportunity here, and if it passes, who is to say there will ever be another one?

wasn't there a huge discussion among experts whether he can actually do that? Would that end up in front of the Supreme Court?

I can't believe an actual POTUS tried to incite a violent coup on his country's own political system. Then, might use existing POTUS powers to pardon himself from said crime, and possibly the many others he's committed.
Blows my damn mind.
