That's completely absurd from the player point of view. What if he regresses or has an injury? He'll be throwing away $70+ million of contractual money. You always lock in term as insurance for yourself.
This is his one and only chance in his entire career for the guaranteed windfall after the best season of his life.

I actually am beginning to doubt 11 gets it done.

If I’m Treliving I immediately use Johnny’s contract as a comparable in the Tkachuk negotiations.

So what? Tkachuk can use what Calgary offered Johnny, which he turned down.

Tkachuk is not a guy to build the team around. Sign and trade to St. Louis for terisanko (sp)

Yeah, let's hardball our core winger. How could that turn out wrong?

Especially when the rumors about hard-balling are what turns players off from dealing with Tre in good faith.

What rumors? Outside of fan speculation on here.

I think the only option for the Flames and Tre is to get Tkachuk to sign long-term. If Tkachuk says no, shop him right away, don't even wait till the trade deadline next year...

And Tkachuk can say "Cool, I'll test it out myself next season."
Gaudreau leaving gives Tkachuk all the leverage, it doesn't matter if Gaudreau signed for a popsicle.

Anyone else left wondering what stunt Tkachuk is gonna pull with what just happened with our former player....whatshisname....can't remember his name because he's dead to me.
Matthew and his big big mouth and his stand that this is how the Tkachuks do business BS.
God ...if this too blows up in Trelivings face he should just quit. I don't hate Treliving but with what these little s hits try and pull. I mean Tkachuks numbers are way inflated now and the crash back down to earth is going to be shocking to him.
He's not a line driver in my mind but at least we still have 2 of 3 but what's the mentality of these 2 gonna be.?
I can see Elias continue being a very good player but he'll need someone to compliment him on that line.
I guess we will see. Kinda makes me wonder already what we have coming down the pipe as far as prospects are concerned.

No, it sets the market. Gaudreau’s 9.2 is Tkachuk’s 7.5.

Sign Tkachuk now or trade him. I don't want to do this again next summer

Cool, so he takes his 9M and peaces out.

That’s fine. But he will leave money on the table, which is very unTkachuk-like.

Ditto. If Matthew is committed to this team long term, he needs to show it now by putting pen to paper. I don't think I can take another season of wondering if one of this team's star players is planning on leaving us high & dry at the end of it...
