I get it, and unfortunately there's a ton of misinformation running rampant that will generally match your interests or subjects.
I have X open right now and this is the "recommended" on the account I searched with yesterday
Multiple tweets on OpenClaw. Claude and AI
A bunch of storys about Ben Gvir being dead as well as Netanyahu
Tel Aviv had a rough day with the city destroyed
List of countries that stand with Iran
Khamenei's son already dead
Iran football girls sending SOS
Iran has destroyed all of the US radars and missiles are on their way to destroy Israel
Body of David Barnea found
I open up a different account
Modi speech (I have no idea why)
Everything else AI related
Nothing about Iran, Israel, American politics, Canadian politics because I use that account solely for posting about AI
On another account it's full of updates for the Ukraine war and pro-Ukraine stories.
I maintain that if you don't go searching for topics that is prone by interests to misinform you or looking for misinformation (whether you actively know it is or not), you won't be hit with it (and if you do, just be wary of the sourcing). Because I searched for Ben Gvir and dug through those accounts, I'm now hit with a wave of continuous extreme antisemitic misinformation because the algorithm thinks that's what I want. But because I also searched about the Iran protests when they were happening, I have remnants of solidarity against the Iranian regime. It also appears this is the account I used to search about OpenClaw.
So even though you clearly weren't searching for anything related to Ben Gvir, you are being fed information such as this because of past interests or searches may have led you to be fed this info. That's why we have to be mindful of the attempts to misinform.
Sometimes a social media refresh / reset is wise if the info you are getting is suspect to prevent being the victim of fake news, and it can happen to all of us.
