I am assuming he reads the Game of Thrones Wiki, which is safe for non book readers as long as you don't scroll down to the 'in the books' section.
But I was honestly thinking the same thing.. man that spelling is bang on for not having read the books :P
Also to comment on how big of a troll Martin is, there is a part where Joffrey is watching the show and you think he chokes on his wine, but he is actually just laughing and spits some out. I was thinking OH MAN HERE WE GO!! And you just know that Martin is sitting there trolly trollersoning it up going "THEY WILL BE WAITING FOR IT, SO I WILL TEASE THEM!" to us book readers.

"The Lion and the Rose."
Absolutely love the title of the episode, though it never really sunk in until watching it last night. On the surface it's about Joffrey and Margaery's wedding, but it's actually speaking to Joffrey and Lady Olenna.
It's no different than "The Mountain and the Viper." Just shows you how creative the writers are.
Really excited for the Littlefinger reveal.

Ahh ya that just hit me, her nickname. Ha, totally over looked that. It was a different sort of duel.

I don't know... the more I watch this show, the more I feel that it just isn't doing it for me anymore. Every big sequence, whether it be the battle of King's Landing, the Red Wedding, or the Purple Wedding, it just seems so under whelming. I get that there are budget constraints, but Martin paints these scenes as vast and expansive, while the show depicts them as small, intimate engagements. Hate to be that guy, but the series really does fall considerably short from the books.

Hmm, I'd say their increasing budget has allowed them to do bigger sets and effects to paint that grand picture from the books.
Just compare the tournament for the new hand in season 1 with what we get now. HUGE difference in scale.

I just view the TV series as a different beast from books. Like any adaptation, the screen can't match what my imagination conjured up. Add to that they changes that has to be made to fit on the screen in the time allotted and, other than already knowing the plot it different enough to take enjoy as something different.
And because I "know" what is going to happen, I find myself almost as interested in the changes required to get on screen, how well the actors get the feeling across, and the reactions of the non-book readers.

If this show underwhelms yoh, I assume you dont watch any other scripted TV shows, right? This might be the least "underwhelming" show in TV history.

No need to get upset. I enjoy several shows, such as Breaking Bad, The Wire, True Dectective, Deadwood, The Sopranos, Boss, etc. All of which I would say do not underwhelm me. The difference of course, is that these aforementioned shows don't have the same fantastic source material to live up to that Game of Thrones does. Consider the House of the Undying sequence in season 2. You can't honestly tell me that you weren't left disappointed with that.

If you are comparing it to the source material, I can see your point.
But that is true of most adaptations, especially in the Sci-fi/fantasy genre.
Take it for what it is, accept what it can't ever be, and enjoy.

Does anyone else find Shae's character annoying in the show? I don't know maybe it's her accent, just don't like her at all. She deserves what's coming haha.

Porn stars can't act, comon!
Their scenes have been among the worst in the show.. she seems to bring down his acting as well.

I haven't had any problem with her, I kind of like her.
In the books I don't think she is seen again until Tyrion deals with her(although it has been a long time since I read them - does she make an appearance at his trial?), so if the show follows that then she will only have one more scene.

It is amazing how much I have forgotten about the books, but her fate is sealed.
Quote:
During Tyrion's trial, Shae betrays Tyrion by lying that he conspired with Sansa to murder King Joffrey and Lord Tywin, revealing the full and intimate details of their affair - including her pet name for him as her "Giant of Lannister"; in exchange for her testimony Cersei Lannister offered her a manse in King's Landing and a knight to wed.
Shae was in Lord Tywin's bed when Tyrion arrived in Tywin's chambers, after his escape from the Black Cells. He strangles her to death with his father's golden chain of office.[6]

It is kind of amusing to me how bent out of shape some folks are getting about spoilers. Most folks say that 24-48 hours is tops for spoilers...Since Storm of Swords came out in 2000, that does kind of put it beyond the "statute of spoiler limitations". I don't really get the whole spoiler hate in the first place, though. If you like something so little that spoilers can ruin it for you, you need something else to like.

Because those people aren't reading the books. The TV show wasn't aired years ago, it is airing now.
If they come into this thread, they have no right to complain. But they have asked for no spoilers and they want a place where they can discuss what is going on. Why can't that be respected? What pleasure is there in screwing it up for them?

Do you see me in there spoilering things for them? Nope. My comment wasn't really to the GOT TV thread specifically, but more in general. You look across social media and see people of all sorts getting bent out of shape when they encounter a spoiler. I agree that it does suck, but to constantly whine about it or get so worked up about it? I just don't understand. Maybe it's more something that should be in the Gear Grinder thread.

There has been spoilers in the thread recently, so that is what I thought you were referring to. Not that you have been posting spoilers, but the people in that thread have asked numerous times for no spoilers yet it keeps happening.
And I don't think we should condone spoilers just because they may be inevitable in other places. They may well be fighting a losing battle, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth fighting.
