Interesting thing my girlfriend pointed out while watching yesterday which I've never thought about when reading the books:
How does Janos Slynt get to serve on the Night's Watch council? Don't all previous titles get erased when you take the Black? Would he have to start from the bottom and work his way to the top?
Or is a simple explanation that he befriends Alliser Thorne and gets some special treatment.

You answered your own question.
In the book, when Slynt accuses Jon, Alliser is pretty much the only member of standing around, other than Aemon, who is old and blind and ignored. Mormont and Smallwood are dead, and Bowen Marsh is off chasing the wildling feints. Plus the fact that Slynt came from a place where he commanded thousands of men probably gave him a little bit of authority in that people would be aware of that and automatically respect him a bit.
There's no real council though in the books, it's just Slynt and Thorne making decisions.

so based on their answer here it looks like most of the episode next week is going to be the purple wedding

Half of an upcoming episode is essentially one long scene. As you get deeper into the process of making this show, how do you decide when it's appropriate or necessary to concentrate the action in that way, and is it something you wish you could do more of if there weren't so many other characters and plots to deal with?
Benioff & Weiss: The long scene you mention struck us as a rare opportunity, since more characters are gathered in one location than at any other time in the series. When we were kids there was a Marvel anthology called “What If?” What if Spider-Man joined the Fantastic Four? What if the Hulk was as smart as Bruce Banner? For us it's fun to see characters who normally occupy separate storylines collide like charged particles in an accelerator. What if Cersei met Brienne? What if Loras bumped into Jaime?

In the books the Lannister's send a letter saying, without actually saying, make Janos Slynt your Lord Commander and you have the Lannister's support otherwise you don't. Seeing as the Lannister's seemingly all but won the war Janos Slynt became a decent front runner for Lord Commander and being friends with Thorne helped give him power.
In the books it was during the war that Slynt made his first appearance as a Brother of the Night's Watch so it was even more chaotic and the power was up for grabs with no Lord Commander, don't really recall a council just Thorne and Slynt trying to execute Jon but Jon being too popular after defending the wall to out right kill.

I love the questioning of Daario's look too
I felt the previous look was more suited to this storyline
can't imagine what they would have thought if a guy like this came on screen

Yeah. I didn't mind how they did it this time but I still preferred the other way, and don't know why they changed it.

Good guess... Seems to me that it would be hard to make that scene 25 minutes long, but then that's true of all scenes. The only other contender from that description would be Mountain vs. Viper, which would just be an epic duel if they did it half that long. So you're probably right.

It's weird how some people in the other thread have obviously read the books but are are trying to make it look like they haven't.
Daradon is doing his best to make it look like he hasn't read the books but the way he is 'supposing' how things play out, you just know he has. Just since last episode he 'guessed' at Dany not coming over for awhile due to future problems and the extent of Brans' abilities, which haven't even really been hinted at yet. He's the most obvious one, been doing it for awhile.
Strange.

Excellent execution (pun intended) of that little puke's (pun intended) death. What a way to go out.
I liked how if you knew it was coming, you could see Lady Tyrell palm the poisoned crystal from Sansa's necklace while consoling her about the Red Wedding.
I also thought it was well done how they had Tyrion try to chase Shae away, giving her a reasonable reason to betray him at his trial, which really didn't exist within the show's storyline until now.
There didn't appear to be any girls in the performance troupe, so I suppose that means we won't have to Penny storyline when Tyrion is on the run. I doubt most readers will miss it.

Also don't mind that they have Bronn sparring with Jamie, rather than Ilyn Payne.
Hopefully this means Bronn has more screen time, as I think the two of them will banter back and forth quite well.

Yeah it's rather amusing. For a bunch of people who supposedly haven't read the books, they have impeccable spelling when it comes to all the character's names.

It's amusing to read in the other thread. I love how folks are thinking it's the pie that was poisoned, since why else would the birds in it be dead?

The exchange between Oberyn and Tywin/Cersei was very well done.
As for Joffrey, they executed it perfectly as nobody even remotely suspects Baelish as being involved, not that they should, but it will make the end of the season reveal that much more dramatic.

Wow, that was quite the guess Nik made in the other thread.

If Maritime Q-Scout wasn't wrong about virtually everything, I would suspect him of being one of these people. The way he knows the proper spelling of obscure characters that are barely mentioned in the series (ie. Trystane Martell) is pretty amazing.
