Hah. Happily for the Flames, the one without the busted elbow. I only wish my 16 year old was there, so I could ask non-hockey fans to guess which guy is the professional hockey player.

Based on my own height and measuring my kid against me versus this pic, there's no way JG is 5'9". More like 5'7". And skinny.

Yeah no way he's that tall, 5'6, maybe 5'7.

Great look back at Gaudreau and the hockey radar before he was drafted

NHL Numbers: Gaudreau

Quote:
Kirk Luedeke, August 2010: John Gaudreau, RW-- He's not quite the agitating presence Hohmann is, but Gaudreau is cut from a similar cloth: big man trapped in a small man's body who is explosive and can really score. Like Hohmann, he's headed to Boston for his NCAA play, but Gaudreau will be at Northeastern instead of Commonwealth Ave. His dad was a star for Norwich in the late-70's and the younger Gaudreau will be challenged more this season as he leaves the comfort of home for the rough-and-tumble USHL.

I'm not really sure why the team fudges Gaudreau's size at this point. What's wrong with coming out and admitting he's 5'7" and 150 lbs? Would it give anyone an advantage over him? Hurt his career or the team in any way?

Pretty sure most vital stats are fudged for all those large and small.

Phil Kessel is listed at 6'0" and 202. Pretty sure he's 5'10" and 250

It's hockey (and all pro sports really) tradition to lie about these sort of things.

I don't think Johnny is a big man trapped in a small man's body, like the article says. He's a small guy who plays like a small guy, but really well.

Byron, or Theo at times fit that description. Stan Jonathan really did.

In basketball, Kevin Garnett used to list himself as 6-foot-12 so he'd be treated as a power forward and not a center.

I know.

Rhett Warrener was standing behind me in line at some lunch place in the +15s the other day. He is 5'11" at most

Where Theo differed was he was scrappy and wouldn't be afraid to get into scrums. I like how Johnny recognizes his size, and always calmly removes himself from that kind of crap. Nothing good can come from our 150lbs, most skilled forward having a case of small man's syndrome and breaking his hand trying to prove his toughness.

It's something I've always noticed Patrick Kane is good at as well - stay away from that crap and remain calm & composed when opposing players try to goad you into that garbage. Really impressed with Johnny's calm demeanor on the ice. Whenever he gets crunched, he never loses his cool, and never plays timid after. Very impressive from a rook.

He was lined up for a big hit from someone last night and he just spun out of it. Nifty.

I did see one time when an ordinary player would have lined up the D, smacked him and probably won the puck, but Johnny turned away and then just tried to steal from behind. It's a weakness, but one which can't be avoided and we all have to live with.

With all that hair underneath, it'll add a couple of inches. Add shoe cushions and maybe a higher skate blade on each skate Tom Cruise did that a lot (with his hair and shoes). If Roger Millions were to pull Gaudreau over during an intermission, he'd have him stand on a little wooden platform or something.

Anyone else notice the scrum he was in last night? He kinda stood off to the side, and Parise came in and starting patting him on the shoulder. Gave him a "heyhowyadoin".....one vertically challenged player to another.

It checks out.

Yeah. Its almost a good thing that hes so ridiculously small that no NHL player would want to take cheap shots at him, as it would only garner the opposite of bragging rights.

It's also the reason he should never get overly involved in the scrums and start facewashing - players will figure he's just a chirper who will go hide behind Monahan or one of the defencemen rather than back it up.
