Up to 15 goals on the season now, great seeing Johnny start hot after the ASG. And I like that his last name is the Americanized "GOO-dreau" pronunciation, because that's what I say whenever he makes a ridiculous move out there: (spoiler'd for size)

Tied with Monahan for the team lead in goals. 4 points behind Giordano and Hudler for the team lead in points. On pace for roughly 26 goals and 65 points.
Wow Johnny!

He's met the rather high expectations folks had of him, which is remarkable. The dome just buzzes whenever he touches the puck.

1 short of being tied for the league lead in rookie goals. Forsberg and Hoffman have 16. JG has 15.

If this keeps up, Johnny Hockey may soon be trademarking the name Johnny Cash.
Fresh off his first all-star game appearance as a raw rookie, 21-year-old Johnny Gaudreau returned to the Dome Tuesday with a smile and some great memories. He also reportedly returned home with a $212,500 bonus for skating with the stars.
But don’t ask Gaudreau, as that stuff doesn’t worry him too much.
“Um, I believe so, ya,” was Gaudreau’s response when asked if being a late addition to Sunday’s game qualified him for the windfall.
“I haven’t talked to my agent since they told me I was playing in the game. I haven’t asked. My agent called me yesterday so I don’t know.”
|
Quote:
Fact is, while the all-star game nod did qualify him for the meaty bonus, the Sun has learned he is essentially a cinch to cash in on all of the US$850,000 entry-level bonuses he’s eligible for.
To do so, he has to satisfy three categories, which include modest benchmarks in goals, assists, plus/minus, minutes played as well as earning an all-star nod.
Third in team scoring with 13 goals and 22 assists, Gaudreau will easily be cashing more big bonus cheques if he continues anywhere near his current production.
Of course, that’s on top of his $925,000 salary and the $92,500 signing bonus he receives all three years of his deal.
|
Quote:
Nothing seems to faze Gaudreau, who has taken his fame and newfound fortune in stride, as he has with everything that’s been thrown at his five-foot-nine, 150-lb. frame this year.
That said, he did admit to being blown away a few times in Columbus.
“Just walking in the locker-room the first day for the skills competition and seeing all the jerseys there — almost every jersey has got a ‘C’ or an ‘A’ on it,” said a wide-eyed Gaudreau when asked about his ‘Aha!’ moment at the festivities.
“If I would have read the names on the back of the jerseys, I would have been in shock.”
|
Quote:
“I kind of felt out of place a little bit because I’m such a younger guy but there were two or three other rookies in the room, so I got to hang out with them a little bit,” said Gaudreau, who sat between Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford and Boston Bruins star Patrice Bergeron.
“I chatted with Bergeron quite a bit since I used to live in Boston — it was cool meeting him because living in Boston I was kind of a Boston fan and had cheered for him.”
|
Quote:
“The whole thing was a blast,” said Gaudreau, who will go down as the player added to fill Sidney Crosby’s spot.
“Growing up, I was watching that game and a lot of the players who are still playing in it, so I was fortunate to play with a whole bunch of guys I’ve been looking up to for a lot of years.
“It was a pretty cool experience.”

That first goal defies physics. I'm still trying to figure out how he roofed it from that close. And far-side. Just amazing.

I watched the goal about 20x on my PVR.... from what I saw Myers slashed Johhny's stick causing the puck to go off Johhny's blade with such velocity, not taking anythign away from Gaudreau though, was still a sick goal if that was indeed the case.

One wouldn’t blame Johnny Gaudreau for pinching himself at the fortunate way things have rolled out for him in a very charmed past calendar year.
At this time last season, Gaudreau was preparing for a couple of Monday night dates at TD Garden for Boston College to compete for the Beanpot as one of the best college hockey players in the country and was still grinning and bearing all the looming questions that remained about the pros: whether he was too small for the NHL, or if he was just a great NCAA player that wouldn’t be able to make the jump.
Well, one year later “Johnny Hockey” is in the middle of having his nickname trademarked, a move Gaudreau insists was pushed on him by his agent, and was hobnobbing last weekend with NHL superstars like Alex Ovechkin, Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Steven Stamkos as one of the league’s best and brightest at the NHL All-Star game in Columbus.
“Growing up I was watching them go through their rookie seasons, and watching their careers develop…so it was pretty exciting to be [in Columbus] with them,” said Gaudreau. “I know I’m always looked at as an underdog when I’m playing other teams because I’m so small, but just making sure I have keep up my speed and keeping my head on a swivel is going to help me in the long run.”
|
Quote:
The bottom line in all of this: the 21-year-old Gaudreau has come a long way while on pace for 28 goals and 64 points as a rookie for the Calgary Flames, and has put himself as one of the favorites for the Calder Trophy along with fellow All-Stars in Filip Forsberg and Aaron Ekblad.
“I didn’t expect things to be moving this fast, but the guys I’ve been playing in Calgary and with the coaching staff it’s really hard not to have a good season,” said Gaudreau. “I’m surrounded by such good players and coaches that I’ve been really lucky in Calgary. The first five or 10 games were really difficult for me. The defensemen are just so good coming down on the wall, pinching and trying to keep the puck in their zone rather than in college where the defense tended to back off, and let us come out of the zone a little bit easier.
“It’s definitely one of those things that I had to get better at. But as each game went on I got a little more comfortable, and it became a little bit better of an experience for me. It’s been a great start to the season after those five or 10 games.”
|
Quote:
So what’s left for Gaudreau to do this season after establishing himself in Calgary, getting named an All-Star the precocious age of 21 years old and inviting comparisons to undersized players like Marty St. Louis with the electric way that he plays the game? Clearly it’s about finishing his rookie season strongly while leading a bubble team like the Flames into the playoffs after some tough seasons in the recent past.
He’ll do that while continuing to apply the lessons he learned as the son of a hockey coach in New Jersey, and during his three years at the Heights learning from a living hockey legend in Jerry York still steering that great Boston College program.
“The quick speed down low and making little plays in the offensive zone, Jerry was pretty big on making plays and being smart in the defensive zone while always thinking offensively,” said Gaudreau. “That was one of the things [York] was really big on at BC.”

Fairly certain Johnny caused the puck to phase-shift through Enroth's chest and then returned it to regular space/time just in time to hit the mesh in the top of the net. Maybe someone with some sort of PhD in advanced or theoretical physics can check my math on that.

I couldn't believe his interview after the Buffalo game. He's dangling two defenders six inches from the goalie, and in his overview of the play he talks about pondering a pass to monahan the whole time. In the end he just roofs it. Incredible:-)
