Their priority is almost certainly Hughes and keeping him in Vancouver for his next contract if not for the rest of his career. To do that, the Canucks need to be competing for the cup every season. That is not this version of the Canucks, currently.

So, you can trade Miller or Pettersson, both or neither. Pettersson has been on a slump for basically a full 82 games. Trading him now means you're trading him at his lowest value and if the Canucks are going to trade him, they absolutely need to win the trade and get players that will contribute to winning today, given the Hughes contract, and not picks or prospects who might be good in 4 years.

But then Pettersson also has a NTC that kicks in this summer. Canucks could just keep him, but what if this isn't a 1 year slump? What if he's the wrong guy to pick?

As for Miller, he's not going to return anything crazy based on rumours. Sure, Chytil, Lindgren and a pick isn't terrible, but Canucks are shipping out a 100+ point center who is apparently the only player with a voice in the room. Moving him out makes the Canucks worse.

I also don't think keeping both will work long term. Boudreau confirmed this feud has been there for 4 years now. The room will never be right with both there. Trading both guys, unless you are completely taking the other GMs to town and winning both trades by far, will make the Canucks a lot worse today. Like rebuild level worse and essentially means Hughes is as good as gone in 2. And to date, Allvin hasn't shown well in the trades he makes (see return for Lindholm), so I wouldn't bet on him winning both trades, let alone one.

What a ride it is in Vancouver right now...
Reminds me of how the Schneider/Luongo situation was handled... and that within two years, both players were gone and that team fell apart.

May it happen again.

Well they are effing idiots. Like i said before, if Wolf even plays up to 60% of what he did in the WHL and AHL we are making the playoffs. And he is at around 85%!

Just saw on twitter that Kaprizov might be heading for surgery. If so, that's brutal news for the Wild after such a great start to the season for him and the team. Russo makes it sound like it's not season ending but 6 weeks or so.

In their last ten they are 4-6. They have some buffer but without kaprizov they could be falling.

Sort of how they went into a death spiral after the line brawl.

Guerin just updated the media and said it is a "week to week" injury and is not season ending. But he probably won't be back until middle to end of March/beginning of April with the 4 nations tournament shutting down the league for a few weeks.

If you think he played better in the WHL and AHL you are nuts.

He's playing the best hockey of his career so far. He's at 100%.

Wolf is 're-sign Ras and get Pettersen' good.

I'm still in favour of a build it slowly without short cuts approach. But you can at least see the logic in wanting to invest now with a player like him on the team. I really see the Quick comparison. We just need an Anze.

Yes, I meant at the start of the season Kaprizov looked like an MVP candidate (if not favorite) until his first injury. They are definitely in trouble if he's gone for a while. Sounds like there is a press conference this morning to discuss the extent of his injury, which isn't a good sign.

Come on. He is doing great in the best league but look at these numbers in his last years in the WHL and AHL. If he was at 100% we would be 1st in our division and he would be a shoo in for the Calder.

If there's a model to follow it should be somewhat akin to Colorado.

That said, odds of Landing a MaKinnon are very low. But I think it's the right idea.
Colorado is funny. They sucked enpugh to get Mackinnon, got into the POs the next year, and decided that was it, so they went out and signed Iginla, Stuart, Briere, etc. And miss the POs for 3 more years. TBF, the Avs underachieved for years with their roster until they finally got their cup. And underachieved afterwards too.

I hope it's not a decision to (or don't) acquire a 3rd pairing dman or 4th line center
