It's later in Florida, you fools.
I hope nobody is in the coffee spray-zone tomorrow morning though.

He played the most minutes, and had elite underlying stats on the presidents trophy winning team.
Sure maybe he has some bad giveaways but he’s absolutely a top pairing dman. There is no arguing that. He’s 31st in the NHL on TOI/GP that’s the definition of top pairing dman.

Interesting to note as well — Tkachuk signed for 8 years versus possibly 4 or 5 and then trying to cash in on another payday.

$4.5 million x 6 years. C'mon. Calgary can't pay over $5 million for a dman. Not their style.

Once again, even though this is one of the largest trades in recent memory with big name players (and their agents) moving teams in a very rare situation, ZERO leaks from BT and the Flames side, and not even a hint from anyone as to this return in days or even hours before this.
The other side locked down too for the most part. Leaking out 1/3 of the teams in the league, if that was even legit, was basically old news because my guess this deal was worked out in principal a couple days ago, and likely worked on for close to a week after JG and thus MT were gone.
"Hockey Insiders" hate the Flames becuase of this, because any Flames rumors they try and peddle to get clicks or follows are pretty much known to be totally made up, and I love it.

You have to run to the top of black rock mountain and blow the big mythical-looking horn.
The purity of your heart will be tested along the way by the ghost of James Neal.

The trade broke after 11pm in Florida, so he's probably sleeping with no idea what has even happened.

Tkachuk knows last season is about as good as it gets, cash in with low taxes
although I will admit in Florida he will do better than my previous projections

Just as you shouldn't judge a player on his highlight reel, you also shouldn't judge on the lowlights.

True but his low's were the worst, I never understood what happened because he was so reliable before. And btw I watched all the games, not just highlight reels. And looking to get paid obviously because his stats say he is great, that's the worry. Sutter needs to tell him to shut up and keep it simple.

A special thanks to Edmonton and Vancouver for passing on Tkachuk
with a first round pick and so many assets the draft/trade tree could go on forever
Vs. Pull ur RV or Julevi or whatever

Flames have more assets today than yesterday

It's why this trade is so awesome. I've voiced my concern around contract status and I really want these extension to get buttoned up (how cool would it be to have them announced tomorrow?), but this trade was big for today and it gave us a big piece in the future.
Treliving somehow brought in a player who was tied for 2nd in scoring in the league last year AND helped gain future/young assets. The entire thought process around basing the deal around futures for me was that there was no way we'd get a player as good as Chucky for *right now*...but then he went and did just that AND got futures AND also got a top pairing defenceman.
It's an impressive bit of work.

I hear you.
But as I said earlier why would you put yourself in the same fire that burned you a week ago?
Look it as a sign now or move now summer and you're way ahead of where you were a day ago.

What this does it make this team mediocre for the next 3-4 year. Might make the playoffs a couple times, might miss, but never good enough to be a consistent Cup threat.
I'm trying not to be a Debbie Downer but this is the exact opposite of what I wanted to happen. I will say though, I expected worse if the Flames were going to go in this direction.

Gaudreau is the same age as huberdeau . We were all pissed he left and didn't resign. We just replace him with a better more consistent player . What's the problem here?

No lumping in there!
I'm sure some of the people that have liked the deal have given it a thought or two thanks.

Not everyone one is extreme [hate the trade as much as possible] or [love the trade as much as possible]. Bizarre to me the responses to those posting logical hesitations, and bashing them for not being in the OMG amazing trade, best trade in Flames history group. It can be, but it's not yet.
