Treliving could have traded Tkachuk for both McDavid and Draisatl and some Flames fans would still find something to complain about.
"Well McDavid had few broken ribs that one time and and I heard Draisatl can be pissy. We may be good for a few years and win a cup but in 5 years we won't have any prospects when we could rebuild now"

Sign Huberdeau, sign Weeger, move Hanifin for Dawson Mercer and a 3rd and call it a day. Brad does the first two and he can sign a 4 year extension, does all 3 and he can sign a 10 year extension.

A few people here are criminally underrating Huberdeau. I think those will be surprised that we just acquired an elite NHLer. I know playing in Florida creates anonymity, but he won’t be able to hide any more.
I would have traded either Gaudreau or Tkachuk straight up for Huberdeau. Let alone the other significant (not spare) parts.
I am shook.

What a shocker. Brad must have gone home from the bar after drowning his sorrows re Johnny and Tkachuk and just said Eff This.
I love the move as there's still so much flexibility. At a minimum it postpones the rebuild by a season (making this one much more interesting than it looked like it was going to be) and sets the Flames up to collect crazy assets and cap space for next season. Or they sign these guys and go RW hunting.
I don't think Brad's done, but I don't think he tops this one for a while...

I'm almost more pumped about our D, I mean that's a hell of group that Sutter can use!

Well we did just get an extra first. But I wouldn’t be trading that, who knows what could happen to Florida in three years.

Move Lucic and they’d have more than enough room for Kadri and extensions for Huberdeau and Weegar IMO

So big part of this:
If Huberdeau and Weegar don’t get signed before the deadline, and the Flames don’t trade them?
I mean…that turns this trade into a tire fire.
Flames aren’t going to be sellers at the deadline, so these players both need to get signed this summer. It must happen.

Well option 2 above is fine too ... without extensions in place.
They went from being in a headlock from one player to a 2025 1st, a prospect, and two other guys that they can now trade this summer if need be for more assets.

Honestly I don’t see it getting to that. My guess is these guys have deals by Monday
Huberdeau gets 7 x $9.5M, and Weegar gets 7 x $6.5M

Yeah, me too. He’s one of my favorite players in the NHL who’s not a Flame. Except now he is.

My comment on this would be that the Flames aren’t going to be sellers at the deadline. This trade keeps them in contention.
They need these extensions done, otherwise they’re at real risk. I fully expect extensions to get done.
