But the main point of the movie is subversion, in this case convincing (incepting) Westerners to give up their nations and children's birthright. Very clever meta technique.

Maybe I need to watch it again. I just remember seeing it the first time and feeling ... I don't know ... 'whelmed'?
Admittedly, the film has so many elements in it that check off all the boxes of what I consider an interesting movie. I'm a sucker for anything dealing with time, and even more when it flirts with grounded science and what we don't know about the universe.
The story was compelling, the acting was solid, the effects were brilliant, and it was just the right balance of giving your brain a mild, entertaining workout while hitting you in the feels.
I will say that, generally, I was more entertained by a film like The Martian, but Interstellar left me with more to think about and process.
Since I'm on the space kick I'm going to try another I've left on the shelf too long: Moon.

I don't know. I think its different for everyone. Definitely a mood movie. I just happened to be in the right one and I could have totally been in the wrong one for it. I almost compare it in my own head more to About a Boy or Cast Away (which I think kinda sucked) than 2001. I ugly cried at Interstellar. More about regret and family and squandered life.
Yes agreed, it has this whole other element to it that hits hard (particularly as a father of 3 girls)

Foster was the protagonist and is who people remember first and foremost about Contact. That's not what the general public had front of mind when it came to MM a decade and a half later based on the movies he was doing. Contact has more of a cult following since it's release than those Sci-fi movies that are widely rewatched and known today like Independence Day.
I just think the casting initially worked against the film even though his casting would probably be considered spot on in retrospect (and was).
The theory might be a reach, but I struggle to come up with other valid reasons why it didn't score like Oscar quality films typically do. It was outstanding.

I'm surprised how much I liked it. It's not so much a romantic movie but one that explores the elusive forces that bind and sever the connections between people.
Certainly not Best Picture material, but Greta Lee was outstanding and anchored the film.

Meh, I believe I was proven correct about the thug nature of the Super Bowl shooting and its similarity to the raptor parade shooting.
But watch Inception again if you don't believe me, it's actually brilliant, if it wasn't so diabolical.
Nolan is using the film to "incept" something into the audience's subconscious, and Leo (who has
a resemblance to Nolan) is his avatar.
So what is that something?
It's just a true blockbuster. Orginal(ish) script, big sets, big actors, etc. It all works.
Nolan knows how to make anything seem intense. The scene where they are trying to dock the runaway station is so good. Anytime I watch it I am on the edge of my seat.
And everyone remembers seeing TARS "run" for the first time and being like "WTF?"

you must've pulled your shoulder out reaching for that "something"
Anyway I found Killers of the Flower Moon to be the worst Scorsese film I can remember enduring. So unbearably generic and predictable, ok acting I guess, poorly paced and the writing was mediocre. I’m hard pressed to say anything nice about it other than it does look like a professional film. Probably an hour too long at least

Just post it in Cyrillic and we'll translate it ourselves. Your English construction is awful.

Watched Star Trek 3 Search for Spock, thought it was great. I don't know why people always clown on this film, I thought it was a perfect sequel to Wrath of Khan. Looking forward to continuing the series by watching 4, I hear that 2-3-4 make a great trilogy.

Yes, it is also a pretty good movie. "I... have had... enough... of you!" -- Christopher Lloyd as a Klingon commander was brilliant. Though me and Star Trek movies is like you and DCEU, I legitimately like most of the ones everyone clowns on (5, 7, 9, and Into Darkness are frequent targets as well).
The only one I think is really legit dreadful movie and Star Trek product is Nemesis. You got a ways to go for that.

Watching ST3 I got the same vibe as watching The Planet of the Apes original sequels (which is a huge compliment because I love all the Apes films). It's honestly like revisiting an old friend when you watch movies from your favorite franchises and almost impossible to be impartial about them.

You would.
Come on in to the Star Trek thread! We can talk all about it!
Next you'll say that you dont get the hype around Voyage Home but think that Final Frontier was under-rated.
