Well, I wouldn't pay him $11.0 m, and I don't think his next contract will come in that high, anyways. I think the organisation has always known what they had in him, bit I also think they have had a finger firmly on the pulse of the market this whole time. I very much doubt that they were caught off guard or surprised by anything that has happened in this negotiation.

I saw this too. Hard to imagine flames can't beat this. If we assume 36 year old Johnny is worth $4.5m for one season, the rumored contract is equivalent to offering $9.5m x 8. Which is curious because the flames were rumored to have also offered $9.5 x 8

On the off chance I am wrong and he hits the market tmrw I think the Flyers and the Islanders will be the other teams in play for Gaudreau. I don't think the Devils have any interest there, they have an abundance of small skilled players, they need size.

I'm guessing that they are not at all serious and are likely trying to make Johnny and Lewis think that's what other teams might offer if he hits the market. I'm pretty certain the Islanders don't want Gaudreau in their division and an AAV of $9 million is on the edge of being an insulting number.

As I have pointed out earlier, the loss of Gaudreau would most likely result in at worst a 50% loss in his production, which would in turn make the Flames a middle-of-the-pack offense, and probably a top three Division playoff team.

Couldn't find your earlier post, but it seems entierly plausible that Johnny being removed from the top line, with someone with far less skill put in that top line winger position, would cause Chucky's and Lindy's production to drop by a significant amount. So it's not just the loss of Johnny's points that need to be taken into account, it's the drop in the entire line's production that needs to be looked at.
