TBF, Huberdeau's surge in January started just before the trade. But for sure he and Kuzmenko hit it off quickly. They both like east-west plays. Sharky between them as a sniper could be fun.

Someone did an analysis of Huberdeau a while back that pointed out one of the things he really loves is to hit the trailing defenseman coming off the rush.
Huberdeau-Parekh is going to be a connection.

None of the Dmen really had that sense, though a guy like Hanifin should have. Wideman did it all the time with Gaudreau. Hamilton did sometimes.
The closest they had to someone who would make that move might have been Zadorov.
TBF, it may not have been coached by, for example, Sutter.

Kylington might have been able to do it. Pity he and Huberdeau hardly played together.

Not really Kylington's game. He was a puck carrier.

He was a puck carrier and also a great skater. I just think he could have done some very interesting things if he'd had time to click with Huberdeau, and learn to take passes from him while moving at speed.
I don't say he was an ideal candidate to do this, but he was possibly the best option on the Flames' blue line this past season.

Looks like Soderstrom might be on outs in Utah. Wonder if we have any interest. Fits our timeline and seems like he could pop in right situation. Would allow us to deal ras or weegs if right deal presents itself. All depends on ask I suppose. But rh shot albeit smaller.

I've watched a lot of Victor, he's not a bad player, but I don't think he gives the Flames anything they don't already have in their organization. Only way I could see it is as a fill-in for if they trade Rasmus.

Still curious what the attraction of laine is. We need centers. We have a multitude of wingers and no one to give them the puck.
Any chance laine goes to to new york is s blockbuster three way for who is it? kakko i think on the rangers?
Guess we will have to see the trade and the overall plan.
As always appreciate the info sec.

Marty Walsh is not the type of union head to push the NHLPA to a hardline stance, so I can't see it happening.
I also think the biggest issue the players have is escrow and with the 5% cap escalation cap, little by little the escrow issue is going to go away as I see NHL revenues exceeding 5% annually for the foreseeable future.
Maybe it'll become an issue in the future when escrow flips to owners cutting players cheques at the end of a season.

Pre-draft, I figured a pick in the top 12 would be enough - especially if one of Iginla or Catton were available. But we’re past the point of being able to trade Andersson for a first round pick that we would know for sure where it sits (i.e. in the top half of an upcoming draft or the bottom half of an upcoming draft).
My guess would be that Conroy would have been ready to make the trade at the draft a few weeks ago but would now need some greater incentive to trade Andersson since he has 2 years left on his deal. Unless he takes a steep decline in his game (hopefully not), he should easily return a late first round pick + 3rd round pick + B-level prospect at the 2026 trade deadline. So any trade right now would have to be much more than that for Conroy to consider it IMO. If I’m right about that, a potential return for Andersson this summer could look like this:
1st round pick in 2025 (lottery-protected)
2nd round pick in 2025
A-level prospect or young (<23 years old) NHL player with star potential that has not been reached
To be clear, I don’t think Andersson will be traded this summer. I think it will take some kind of pressure either on the the flames (for example: a trade request) or on another team (for example: a long-term injury to a top 3 defenceman on a contending team) in order for that to happen. I could see him being dealt at the trade deadline because he will have a year still left on his deal. Honestly can’t think of a team that would/could spend the kind of assets required to get Andersson right now. Ottawa would be the best bet IMO but they don’t have a first round pick next year.
|
Yeah, I think your suggestion is pretty close to the mark. Getting a 10-12 pick would have been a centerpiece to make it worthwhile. Without that, assuming it's a late 1st, it would also have to include a very good prospect, and another piece, IMO:
1st + A-level prospect + additional decent piece or pick (2nd or 3rd).
Andersson is a top-pairing, right-shot D with two 50 pt seasons (including 49 in 79), who can play in all situations. And he is going to be 28 this season, on an extremely cap-friendly contract. He is worth a ton. And the only reason to trade him is if someone is willing to pay full price. Which STARTS with those proposals.
