^^^That is a big reason why I have very rarely ever played online. Unfortunately, with the way the AI is programmed it is becoming terribly obvious that this series is designed to be played 6 vs 6 online.

Like honestly, I've played with maybe 2 good players in the last 25 games. Everyone else is just beyond terrible or is an a-hole.
These people have 1800 points over there career and they have no idea the fundamentals of hockey, they just chase the puck, don't pass, go off-side.
The online is so broken because the community is so freaking bad.

Playing with your BAP online in the community is the worst thing you can do. Stick to your online team or go do something else. It's insufferable.
As for the broken sticks, I agree — the slider is waaaay too high. Especially online.
As for the guys falling over, in my experience (HUT), they only do that when they're dead tired and they try to do a quick move.
I've found this year that on my HUT team, I have guys in the upper 90's. When I try and switch over to my BAP online, he's at like 80, and can't do crap. He really, really sucks. So I just don't play that mode anymore, and it used to be my favourite.

It is...kind of. The trade GM is better, as you can't fleece the AI with a Regehr + Low prospect for Toews anymore (though it did accept Bouwmeester + 2nd for Nash not too long ago...). However, the UFA/RFA GM is still horrible.

This was Ea's attempt at making the game more realistic and take away from people who try to exploit.
Broken sticks happen when players attempt to always do drag wrister's or rely on one timers only.
Falling is setup to remove washing machine players (players who do nothing but circles) and make players pass more then do nothing but figure skate.
The falling works on a timer, it counts down as you do constant Circles/Sharp Turns until you fall then the timer resets. It also resets if you stop doing Circles/Sharp Turns for a short period.
Personally I am a HUGE fan of the falling and the broken sticks as it adds an X factor to the game and teaches people to play with a little more real hockey sense vs video game sense.

Except the hockey IQ on NHL 11 is about 16. All it is in immature idiots.
Can't believe I play this game still, so broken.

odd thing today....in a club game somebody passed to me cross crease and my guy was ready to one time wrist it in, but for some reason i lost my stick lol. pretty sure i wasn't stick lifted since i didn't feel vibration nor was i hit, i just simply dropped my stick when i touched the puck (we still ended up winning in double ot but still)

It's a nice step and increases the realism of the game to some degree, however from what I can tell it is all completely random.

I wouldn't call it random as I have not fallen over in a game for at least 6 months now that I don't abuse the sharp turns.
The only time I break sticks now as well is when they are slashed out of my hands.

I break sticks on shots, wrist or slap, all the time. My players fall randomly when not abusing sharp turns. Sometimes I can dispy doodle, some times all it takes is one single cut to the middle. It can be a fresh player, or a fatigued player. I really see no pattern.

I run with 99 endurance and 80 balance I never fall. If it is random i would imagine I would have to fall at least sometime but alas it never happens unless I decide to figure skate.
Broken sticks are related to your player type and build. If you have high strength and low handeye you will break sticks on one timers all the time. If you have low strength and high shooting attributes you will break sticks while doing drag wristers.
The TWF is most susceptible to broken sticks. The TWD in turn breaks little to none.
Your combined attributes come heavy into play when on the ice. People who decide 94 accel and agility is the way to go tend to find themselves on the ice a lot of the game.
On our EASHL team we really only have one player who falls down more then once every 4-5 games (im talking the fall animation and not being crushed) and it is because of the high agility low balance build he plays.
When EA releases tuner updates they explain these "random" aspects, what causes them and how one can avoid them.

Maybe it works differently between offline and online, because playing 95% Be A GM I have never noticed these things.

I find broken sticks just happen from time to time on shots, slashes, etc.
From playing a lot of BAGM, I can say that from my experience, falling to the ice is always a result of: young players, tired players. Iggy for example never falls, but he also has maxed balance/endurance for me. Taylor Hall in his 3rd year is a 91 OV player for me, with 88ish in balance and endurance, yet he falls all over the place. Same with my other rookies.
Seems to be many factors at hand, maybe the age is related to the poise of the players in my case. At the end of any game Iggy is a rock, but the rookies have a chance of botching their passes/skating.

When I play BeAGm I turn the stick breaking slider all the way up.
Same with injuries and CPU penalties.
Makes the game more fun for me.

Wow, I've never fallen, i guess I didn't know how to do the circles in the first place.
I don't actually think I went online once with NHL 11 and I got it at launch. I like the game for an occasional play now vs. the computer. It might seem boring, but I can't get into all the play modes and stuff. I'm just looking for a quick fix of hockey and I don't want to play against some cheap 12 year old that dekes end to end on every play.

i don't think it's just circles....i've always stuck with classic controls (you can still do everything except for protect puck). tried default controls again and protect puck seems to also make your player lose his edge alot

The trick with that is to just push it, release and then cut when he's doing the animation... if you hold on to it then yeah, you fall

Much like a left-to-right or right-to-left stick deke, I only use the protect puck button to trigger opposition animations and make a player commit to a certain movement/action.
Holding it down is rarely used by me unless I am driving hard to the net.

Just got this game over Christmas and I don't usually read this thread, I didn't realize this one was so lowly regarded (granted I've NEVER played online, pretty much just play with my buddies). Playing the computer sucks, but its been that way for awhile now. You have to really fiddle with the sliders, but I still haven't fully found a setting between too hard and too easy. Man the computer's chippy, they run so many pick & roll's and they never get called. RGMG
Over-all though when you're playing your buddies it runs pretty smooth I think, the passing took some real getting used to but I like it now. Sticks break waaaaay too much, but you can change that on the sliders. Same with penalties (way too many), but again, sliders. I like the custom goal celey's you can do, there's some good ones.
I'm curious how many of you complaing have PS3, as we all have XBox and my buddy got PS3 primarily for NHL11. He hates it, it doesn't run nearly as smooth as XBox. Its so much harder to pass too, its quite bizarre. Over-all I love this game when you're playing your buddies (when they're in the same room as you, idk about online), but they need to fix playing the computer, its so damn chippy.
