You might be right. Anything to avoid signings on July 1st is a good thing in my books.

I did have this thought. Might have prevented a stupid "win now" motivated signing today.

Love it.

Good teams are built strong down the middle and he's still just 28.

The flames need a massive reset in my mind. With that in mind, I would prefer to clean out most of these 2024 UFAs including lindholm.

If hes re-signing I sure hope it's not then 70 million.

If he does, it will be $72M or more. It's absolutely hat-on-ass bonkers to willingly throw so much money into a mediocre core on the wrong side of 30, but I think I've hit that phase where I've simply stopped caring. Let Edwards and friends find out the hard way how many people are willing to pack that fancy new arena to watch a bunch of untradeable geezers miss the playoffs again.

Yes. Trade 'em all.

I dont want to re-sign Lindholm unless you 'Tkachuk' him, you sign the 8x$9 and trade him immediately.

I dont know how much more clearly to say this...Treliving left us with too many players too close to 30 on contracts that are too long!

We cant possibly be so stupid as to add another one?!?

Tell Lindholm to pack his crap.

Lindholm would be the one I'd want to keep, but we've already used more old anchor slots than we should ever have. IMO it's just not an option anymore. Or at least, a very bad one. We'll have $30M+ tied up in fringe NHLers by the end.

I just heard the Flames last offer was 8x$8.2m, probably front loaded that would pay him around $10m the first 4 years.

Personally I doubt he would get the equal of that on a 7 year deal from someone else

Any team out there willing to sign him $9.3? I doubt it.

8.2 wouldn't look that bad when the cap rises.

Point is valid about the long deals for guys on the wrong side of 30

I’d rather they find a way out of that Kadri nightmare, personally

It doesn't look bad now. At $8.2 m Lindholm would be the 21st highest cap-hit centre in the NHL, which tracks about right.

He's 28 now, he'd be 29 when that contract kicked in, we'd have him until 37.

No. Just....no. Dont do it. He'd be wiling out that contract toiling on our 4th line.

And that Kadri contract? I have no idea what we're going to do about that one. I personally think we're either stuck with it, or it'll be bought out (The Treliving UFA Special) with 3 or so years remaining.

You can buyout the contract in the final few years especially with a cap that's going to be 100 plus.

Even if they wait until 2027, a Kadri byout comes with a 2.33M cap hit for 4 years.

No matter how you cut it, it's butt ugly. On top of that, the Wizard, in all his Wizardly Wisdom, made Huberdeau's contract essentially buyout proof.

So...you want to but out a bad contract (maybe even 3) when you are actually getting competitive again...just so we can finish 7-12 in the west now instead of 13-16?
