The guy doesn't care about winning at all...I have spent all these years defending him and some of you were right. He just wants to out up points and make fancy plays. Long offseason at the beach.

Maybe it’s Murray Edward’s. Found it weird there was a rumour he called him.

Or maybe he was just in Greece with his own family?

3. Writing was on the wall when Tre couldn't get him re-signed last off season. But what else can Tre do when it was clear the team would make the playoffs by Christmas time? No way would you trade your star player when you have a chance at the cup.
Finally we know Columbus is not a world class city, but is Calgary that much better?
|
Covered this in another thread but as someone who has visited both cities but lived in neither, YES, Calgary is MUCH better.

If he didn't care about winning, wouldn't he have shot wide in game 7 OT?
Some of you guys are pathetic.

Serious question. Is Columbus where Glee is / was?

Yup. Found out about the hockey player definitively. We know he’s got great skill. But he’s a loser.

Okay it's obviously not a major concern of his...he shot wide plenty of times in his playoff career...might never see them again though.
He joined a terrible team in the best division for less money. Winning is not high on his list...no pressure is.

If he turned down Jersey and went with Columbus, it's simply because he wants to be out of the spotlight with no expectations. I can respect that...but also he is dead to me LOL

Had an idea!
|
Lets summarize.
He citied family reasons for not staying.
The closest city to where his family is was in Philly. Philly didn't have the cap space to sign him.
The next closest is New Jersey, who had the cap space.
New Jersey also has a brighter future.
Instead, his camp reaches out to Columbus and basically tells them he wants to play there. Columbus has basically done nothing in 20 years as a hockey organization, so there are no expectations, nothing. Outside of Arizona, is there another team that has been so mediocre for that long?
All in all, my best guess is he does not care about winning, can't stand the pressure of winning, and wanted to go to a destination where he could do just that.
And he was willing to forgo $18 million to do that.
His decision, but I can't imagine his teammates, other teams, the NHL, NHLPA, the Flames, GMs around the league and other player agents are looking at that situation and thinking he made a smart move.
You don't go to UFA to leave $18 million on the table. Yes, you sign for less sometimes, and sometimes you want to play in certain cities. But if you are a top player, you command top money & you can pick where you want to play. That is the point of being a UFA.
Hard to see all of this as anything other than a complete disaster for the Johnny side of things. And as complete disasters usually go, they tend to follow you along for the rest of your career.

Well come on, if winning was important he wouldn’t sign with Columbus. That’s a given.

Not in Canada, check
Closer to home, check
Low pressure market, check
Easier travel, check
While Columbus isn't the most desirable destination, it checks a lot of boxes Calgary does not.
I'm still directing most of my disdain for this on management. Even if Treliving was "duped", he should have had a better Plan B than what's happened this far. He looked rattled in the presser as if he was blindsided. This was always a possibility.

I’m sure he likes winning. Who doesn’t? He just doesn’t like the focus, attention or expectations that come along with trying to be great.

Is this a serious question? So, he cares about winning some nights and other times he doesn't? Is that the argument now?
Dino claims Gaudreau wants long summers. If that was the case, wouldn't he have just dumped it in the corner against Dallas and went for a line change?
