Why though?
I don’t know why either guy would want to stay if the other is leaving. They are the best 2 players on the team and have played extremely well since being put on the same line with Lindholm

When Transplant99 transitions I will be certain to not reference to them as a tranny.

That or one of Backlund or Monahan is traded or bought out.

this sounds about right for a winger...even with a great playoff.

I give it 70/30, and I would have had it reversed last season. The lack of new arena deal is the pall, but his fiance moving here to work nursing is extremely encouraging. I think some playoff wins would seal the deal.

Does he even want to be captain? Not all players do. Panarin didn't want the C in NY and I doubt he is the first to decline. It is more than just putting a C on his jersey. Considering he isn't wearing an A, I bet he is comfortable with things as things are.

10.5*8= 84Mill.
Someone would have to offer him 12*7 to match the $$ and who knows what Johnny would be worth at ~35 to resign.
I think we can make that work. Perhaps some additional bonus structure can even reduce it to 10 flat.

Johnny cannot get any bonus structure.

Lol, remember when I said the negative posters were flocking here because the team was doing well so they had to focus their negativity somewhere else. I also said if JG signed they would instantly move on to Tkachuk leaving, Gaudreau has not even signed and it has already begun. So predictable.

I think the “C” for extension should be focused squarely on Tkachuk who we all know wants to be the captain and has worn a letter for many years here. I don’t think a letter means much to Johnny but I could be wrong

I agree that either Johnny or the team hasn’t looked at him as captain for whatever reason. I also however don’t think Tkachuk will be swayed by a C. Nor should he, really. I think it’s gonna be dollars that move Tkachuk one way or another. Plus, I doubt Sutter really wants him as captain. I suspect it will be Tanev or some other vet like that.

Maybe johnny doesn't want it, but if he does you have to consider him. He's the top offensive player, and he came in and bought fully into Sutter's system no questions asked, improved his defensive focus as the coach demanded, and it has led to direct results for the team and the club. As Johnny goes on the ice, the flames offense goes. Whether or not directly, he just sucks the attention towards himself and energizes his own team mates.
To me those are all captain attributes and we would be well served enshrining that.

I am confident that if Tkachuk re-signs here long term he will wear the C. If Gio comes back this season or next that could be a wrinkle but I don’t see them giving it to Tanev or they would have done that already.
I agree that Tkachuk’s primary motivations are 1. Money and 2. Winning but I do think he would place value on getting the C and I think that would be something that would mean a lot to him.
The maturity he has shown this year is another step closer to getting that letter in my opinion

They're not coming off their entry level contracts; their combined cap hits are already $13.75 million a season. You have to find around 4-5 million to keep both, not easy but entirely doable.
They already have big contracts, not ELCs. Ship out Monahan, let Zadarov walk, cheaper depth then Pitlick and Gubranson

I'd say it's 50/50 that they can sign Johnny, which is higher than I ever thought. And if pushed, I'd likely go higher vs. going lower. This has been a good year for the Flames and Johnny in particular, so that has to count. For a lot. The fact that his wife has moved here isn't particular relevant, where else would a newly married women live?
I think it goes down to the wire and may depend on whether he has playoff success or not. From his point of view. of course, if he can lead the Flames into a great playoff, what does that do to his demands?
But Calgary will not get him on a bargain type contract, this is not a Landeskog situation. They need to pay the man.

Head over to cap friendly and run the math. Add 2.5 mil to Gaudreau’s contract and 3 mil to Mangiapane’s. Then see where that leaves you. Unless the Flames sign 6 or 7 roster players to league min contracts next season, something has to give.
And long-term does it make sense for the team to have two wingers locked up to $9 mil contracts?

8yrs x $11 is my max, but even at that figure I think it makes it very unlikely the Flames could build a Stanley Cup winner.

I may be wrong, but I believe bonuses are only available for ELCs and 35+ year old players.
