All of these paid actors trying to drive up the price. Flames are being tempted to bid against themselves

The only way Vegas benefits from this is if the players they now have on LTIR are out for the entire season. I don't believe we have any definite information that this is the case.
And I’m sure it will be easy to create $10 million in cap space when he is ready. Look at what teams had to pay to get rid of cap space in the past. Arizona will be lining up for players and draft picks to take them off your hands. If Vegas doesn’t send salary back then it could get ugly very quickly. All these talking heads look at LTIR as get out of jail free card. The cost of cap compliance has to be added to the price if they don’t send cap back to Buffalo.

He used to work the Flames beat for the Sun. Now, it looks like he writes for a site called Calgary Hockey Now, which just launched at the start of the season: https://calgaryhockeynow.com/calgary...y-now-website/

Seems premature to me for Vegas to mail in their season. Despite their start, they are three points back and Krebs is playing on the second line. That defence is ugly without Theodore. Can’t imagine Vegas is an easy market to be a bad team and any trade for Eichel makes them worse now with a tough road to make the playoffs in a tight division. They better hope he recovers super fast and has no rust after over a year off (and I have wanted Eichel for the Flames). I just can’t see how it makes sense.

Good luck to them if they are giving up young roster players on entry level deals for another guy on LTIR. I have trouble with the Flames gutting the roster for someone injured for months. Can’t imagine if we had several of our top players out as well.

I agree that Vegas is a long shot to make the playoffs if they make this trade.
I guess they're looking at next year as they're focus or maybe an outside shot they squeek into the playoffs.

The Flames however are in a much better position to make a deal and remain competitive until Eichel comes in.

Yes. I was on the Flames beat for Sun Media from lockout to lockout and then did some pieces for Flames Nation and joined the Bleacher Report NHL team for Turner Media for a few years before they closed the department.

I launched Calgary Hockey Now in tandem with new Canadian sites in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. It's part of a growing National Hockey Now network made up of some of the best beat writers in those cities. We're hoping it can be as successful in Canada.

I also used to jump in here a lot to talk about my articles when I was with the Sun. I like to be accessible and accountable - so if anyone wants to chat. I'm around.

The source quoted mentioning Calgary is a good one. I wouldn't post anything from anyone that isn't connected. This one is on par with Elliotte - who I'd consider the most in tune on the agent side of things - but at the league level.

Well, you should. I guess I'm just a bit older, but I just assumed all Flames fans knew who Steve was. He's been around a while and is legit, he's not some guy blogging from his mom's basement. Glad he drops in here from time to time, it's appreciated.

Appreciate that KFF ... Mostly writing from the Dome or my bonus room these days. But I also realize that leaving the paper at a time when Twitter was just getting started I'm going to have to re-build my reputation with the younger generation. I'll work my butt off to be a conduit between fans and the team - that's what the beat was always about for me.

Thought your name seemed familiar.

Took a while because it's not in all caps like I remembered reading it in...

So you're saying its not over for the Flames and Eichel? Percentage chance?

Believe it's still a longshot but things can change fast. As long as they keep circling back, makes things harder on Vegas. But Vegas is definitely the heavy favourite - the cap situation is a huge factor. Flames need to dump a lot of salary on the Sabres to make it work but doubt they want to let someone go who they need for playoffs this year (eg. Tkachuk or Gaudreau).
