For anyone wondering, Hamilton's agent, JP Barry is and was Regehr's agent while he was with the Flames.
Also represents Crosby, Malkin, Toews among others

BOS GM Sweeney says he extended an offer to Hamilton and "it didn't leave us comfortable with our group long term."
Chris Johnston @reporterchris
Don Sweeney: "We extended Dougie a very significant contract offer and it didn't lead us where I thought it would."

Treliving doesn't seem worried at all. I bet they sign him tomorrow or Sunday.

If the $5.5M is correct, you sign him for 8 years and run.

I still am in disbelief about this whole thing. How the hell did Treliving pull that off.

Unrealistic.

Treliving also mentioned that he knows Barry very well and they have a very good working relationship.

Sweeny says they felt they would be better served to move in a different direction when Hamilton turned down Bruins long term offer.
He was also adamant that Hamilton didn't ask to be traded.

In the Treliving interview earlier I caught him quickly say "Don's such a tough negotiator"
I did a fist pump when I heard this. Because this is what Burke said about Lowe when he got Pronger for pennies on the dollar. This is what Burke said about Sutter when he got Phaneuf for scraps. Best trade ever
Sweeney still expects the Bruins to make the playoffs.

I'm still not sure what happened.
Hamilton wouldn't sign? Or he just wanted more than what the Bruins wanted to pay?
If the 5.5 number is close, what would stop the Bruins from signing him to a long-term deal? He was their cornerstone d-man for the future, now he's gone. It just seems so quick and strange. Great for us, though.

Well they aren't going to be doing them any favors that's for sure. There's 28 other teams to deal with, Edmonton will have to over pay. Call it the price of McDavid.

ie: Bruins were resigned to the fact that an offer sheet was coming. And they would've probably matched even just out of principal because said offer sheet was from the Oilers and Chirelli. But the Boston media and fans would've been hard on Hamilton for daring to sign an offer sheet in the first place and placed unrealistic expectations. So, we'll trade him to the one team where the former GM won't likely try to do an offer sheet.

Reading between the lines on Sweeny's press conference, the Bruins made what they thought was a more than fair long term offer and Hamilton came back and asked for more.
Also rather than wait for an offer sheet they decided to accelerate the process and get picks for this year's draft instead of 2016.

That is such a beautiful shot. "Thanks for leaving me this stinking pile of a mess, Peter. No, I won't let you take advantage of the situation with you're new team."
