Well the only good news after that performance is I can now watch the rest of the season with my pre-season expectations completely removed from the equation...and that 9-7 may win the NFC South.
I was convinced this year would be another long year as a Cowboys fan. I figured on sad defense, mediocre coaching, a dumb owner and an offense that has to do too much. Defense has been better than expected, coaching on defense has improved, owner is still dumb and the offensive line is looking very good. The running game making it easier for Romo and keeping the D off the field.
No illusions that they are going anywhere but looks like the season could be enjoyable.

I don't think anyone thought the offense would struggle. I always get a chuckle out of Dallas' hypemachine going into overdrive every September. They got spanked by the 49ers, beat a crappy Titans team, nearly lost to a crappy Rams team, and beat what appears to be a bad Saints team. Obviously you can only play who you're scheduled to play, but they maybe might want to hold off on the coronation until Romo makes it through a December without completely crapping the bed.
Aren't Cowboy fans aware how this movie goes? The season usually starts out with relatively decent expectations, they beat the crappy teams they're supposed to. For a half second in October and November they even look like potential, possible, maybe contenders. And then the meltdown comes in December, as always. It's clockwork isn't it?
Frankly I love this start for the Cowboys. The more that can be done to keep Romo and Garrett around the better for fans of every other NFL team. Still a 95% chance they finish 8-8 or within a game either way. The bigger takeaway from last night is how bad the Saints are. Could be a 6-10 season for them, defense has taken a big step back and so has the offense, though only one of those is surprising.

Outside of the first quarter against the Niners, I thought they played pretty well. Spotting a team 21 points usually doesn't turn out very well.
I predicted an 8-8 season from the onset, and still think that's probably going to be the case...possibly 9-7, but we'll see.
Regardless of the competition, I do like how the team has looked thus far. Then again, even the slightest glimmer of hope gives us Cowboy fans something to be excited about for once.

I think they have a shot at going 9-7 or 10-6. Their schedule looks really soft. They should be able to at least go 3-3 over their next 6 games and the run-in doesn't look particularly formidable at the moment.
Think Dennis Allen regrets leaving the Broncos for the dumpster fire that is Oakland yet?
Same with Gus Bradley leaving the Seahawks for the Jaguars....I can understand the idea of only so many opportunities out there and the like. But there are some jobs you should just stay the hell away from. Those are two of them.

As for Dallas, if their offensive line can stay healthy along with Demarco Murray, than they might actually have a bit more staying power this year.
I would agree with the broadcast from last night, where if Tony Romo comes to realize that it's not all on him to make their offence go, and he can keep it so he only has to throw around 30 times a game, I think they have a much better chance to win. Their defense has been so much better than anyone anticipated thus far. If they can stay away from all the turnovers, they will have changed what plagued them the last 3 seasons.

Bottom feeders don't get better unless people that have a track record of success take jobs that they very well know they may not have great success at. Seattle, for example, may never have become a very good team if not for the contribution of Mike Holmgren. He had nothing to prove coming to Seattle after his success in GB but the impact he made was huge and he nearly won a second SB with a pretty sad sack team at the time.

EJ Manuel finished as Buffalo's QB of the future, Kyle Orton is now the starter. Had to happen, the AFC East might be open this year with New England taking a step back, gotta make a run. Orton should stabilize their offense.
