Maybe the Russian factor will scare a couple teams off and he falls to the Blues pick.

Agreed - and with multiple first round picks I think you can afford to take a couple of risks including grabbing a Russian when maybe you wouldn't with a single pick.
Blues got a steal by grabbing a falling Tarasenko.
Let's do the same.

The highlight videos of Mackinnon I've see remind me of Sam Gagner. I just read this article that someone posted on hfboards and apparently 12 of 14 gm's said they'd pick Drouin over Mackinnon and that Mackinnon is benefiting from Drouin's play and not the other way around.
This got me thinking, and I'm considering the flames drop 2-4 spots, and get a low 1st/high 2nd back and then draft Monahan. By all reports Monahan is a player that makes his teammates better and has leadership qualities.

The guys on the morning show speculated that Tampa Bay's pick could potentially be had through a trade.
Looking like they'll pick around 4th overall. Basically they said that with the acquisition of Bishop, and Stamkos and some players just coming into their prime, they might look for some solid older players to fill in the gaps with. Something like Gio + 1st Picks, or Glencross + 1st Picks, or possibly both Gio and Glencross in order to grab the 4th overall from them.
If we take MacKinnon at 2nd overall with our pick, any chance at all Drouin falls to 4? If this could be pulled off. Will Florida jump on him, or take Barkov, or the next best d-man in Nurse, maybe? Probably very little chance they'd pass up Drouin at 3. But if you're going to throw everything at getting two picks in the top 5, I think your targets should be to get both Drouin and Mackinnon given the long time connection and chemistry between the two.

I also think that for all his weirdness, Kuznetsov is still going to come over to Washington and do really well (when he does come over).

If that scenario panned out I would love to see them grab both MacKinnon and Nichushkin. Since we are all about tossing out NHL players names to relate to, i would say that would be our Crosby/Ovechkin and in one draft.

How would the guys on the morning show know if TB's 1st rounder is available or not?

I think this is backward thinking to what the Flames need to have in this draft. We need to lock down the #1C first and then look at drafting D, RW and additional C/LW with our later picks.

I'd rather MacKinnon/Drouin or MacKinnon/Barkov in that case.

No thanks for Petan.
Nice player, but small, undersized forwards are the last thing the Flames need.

Mackinnon put up huge numbers last year as a 16 year old when Drouin was barely playing. Who was he benefitting then?
Its funny how the guys that have been hyped for awhile always seem to get trashed in their draft year while the new, shiny guys get pumped up.

That's a big thing to consider.
I'm aging myself a little, but I remember back when Pat Falloon was drafted 2nd overall, there were some people that said he was benefiting from Whitney and not the other way around (Whitney went early in the 2nd round). This just reminds me too much of that draft.
I also think Mackinnon gets more benefit of the doubt because he was once hyped as a phenom. Hockey fans in Canada have been looking ahead to the MacKinnon sweepstakes of 2013 for the past 3 or 4 years. Now that 2013 is here, he is on par with his peers, but I think many people still think of the hype and are expecting that.
I do like that some people are comparing him to Toews. When I hear descriptions of him, he sounds like a Langkow/Marleau hybrid to me.

With MacKinnon I think it's a cause of him being scouted for so long that people are nitpicking over every little thing about his game. Drouin may end up having a more productive career points wise but I feel that Mac will be the better all around player to be thrown out in key situations.

The Bolded sold me. Marleau with Lankows defensive abilites? That would make a darned excellent NHL player for years to come.

Not me. If the Flames were able to get another pick in the top 5 I would want another non-risky Russian with a KHL contract. Monahan would be the guy I would target. Maybe Barkov (again, nervous). TBQH, I don't think I'd waste the STL (mid-round) on Nichushkin.
If the Flames manage to secure Tampa's pick, I would be trying like crazy to do what was necessary to draft MacKinnon AND Drouin.

No idea what Tampa would be looking for. They're one of the clubs I've paid very little to no attention to this season. However, you've have to think that they're the most likely of the basement teams to make a rebound, especially after getting a solid goalie in Bishop. They've already got one of the higher end offenses in the league and goaltending has been their downfall since Roloson stepped up huge for them a couple seasons ago (and before then). But I could see them being the least dependent on a top 5 pick of all the bottom dwellers. This could bode well for us, if we're willing to make Gio/Glencross/Cammy available trade pieces at the draft.
