Except the 35 yo is using Spotify, Pandora and Netflix for their audio/video needs, and Apple completely missed out on the cloud based subscription model. And that is probably one of the bigger misses on Apple's part. Spotify and Netflix user's have no reason to stay with iPhones any more. Used to be you kept going with iPhone because you made that big investment in non-portable drm'd music.

Apple makes over half the profits worldwide in mobile phones, Samsung takes the rest. Their share is shrinking but 50+% is better than zero (I'm looking at you HTC, Motorola, LG, ....). I wouldn't bury them just yet.

If Apple wants to pigeonhole themselves into a certain target market then thats cool. Seems like a really short sighted strategy, and they've only ever totally sucked as a company when Jobs wasn't there and....this doesn't sound like it will end well.

I do agree Cook doesn't inspire confidence. He did an awesome job on Apple's supply chain in the past but pretty meh as CEO

Why does the rest of the world matter? Do I care what people in China or India are watching on TV? No. Do I care what smartphones people in China and India prefer? No.

Apple doesn't cater to entry level smartphone markets? I bet most of their customers have never owned another type of smartphone. They cater to whoever falls for their branding.

If you have been keeping up, you better believe Apple cares if Chinese and Indians are buying their phones. haha

Apple does but I don't. That stuff is for the fanboys and shareholders to worry about. I see you don't have anything to debunk my clever Toyota/BMW analogy.

Then why are you in thread? it's an android vs ios. Is it an EE Is The Man thread?
Yeah your argument is pretty stupid. You are missed the argument completely. It's not Samsung vs Apple. It's Android vs Ios. BMW is not fighting against just Toyota. They are competing against Mercedes, Honda, Porsche, Nissan, GM, Ford. You know only apple phones use iOs right?
Maybe if you were running an android you wouldn't be doubleposting. hahaha

Actually we're all missing the point. We can't prove one is better than the other by pointing at sales (Android, yay) or profit (Apple, yay) since there are different business models. Google gives stuff away, Apple charges a boatload. By that logic iOS must be better because people are willing to pay a big premium for it, when in reality it's just marketing and sheep buying habits, right? The point is people buy for many reasons so none of these stats are all that useful for determining the better OS/ecosystem
Instead we should stick to intellectual arguments about which is better, such as Android had it first, but they copied from Apple, but they copied from....

So why do they still manufacture a two year old phone and sell it for $0 on a contract (4S) and why did they manufacture the 5c which sells for $99 on a contract? If they don't cater to the entry market wouldn't they only sell the newest model iPhone?

This whole narrative has sprung up rather recently. The narrative is trying to fit what Apple is successful at. You're now seeing a lot of "Apple is only catering to x market" recently.
Moving on..
Taken from the iOS 7 or new iPhone thread..

Seriously, it's awesome.

lol. How long has Android had this?
Thneed is a great poster and I remember agreeing with him in another Apple thread that whatever phone works for you is great... but this is a feature that has been apart of Android for how long now?
Re: Cook's comments... reminds me of Steve Balmer of Microsoft after the iPad was released... just woefully stupid comments. Cook seems to have all the arrogance of Jobs but none of the genius. These guys at Apple are really resting on what they've done previously.

So apparently with IOS 7, they not only failed to improve the keyboard at all (auto correct on my ipad is laughable), they made it worse!
Same keyboard, same spelling dictionary, same layout, more lag. Sweet

So what you're saying is that the old boring iOS is closing the gap with Android now. Does that make it just 10% old and boring or us it 20%?
Edit: I agree with the Balmer comparison.
