don’t #%^* that up by signing a stupid Oiler player to an offer sheet.

How great are these players that they will #### it up? Like any player that they could sign to a 2nd round compensation offer sheet, how great are they that they could #### up the ability to get a top pick? And if they are that great does that mean that they are worth more than a 2nd round pick?

4.5 for the Oiler's pair is a huge overpay.

Sure, then give the same offer to Nemec in 2026 when they cannot match that offer. If the Devils matched 4.5 they would have a difficult time signing the other two players they need to sign this year and also signing Nemec in 2026 and qualifying Mercer at 5.5.

If the player is not that great, then why are we giving up a second round pick as compensation. I get it that he's young, but he's also not worth the trouble of overpaying, which you need to do on offer sheets.

Especially since we will be the team with hopefully attractive up and coming talent all being eligible for dumb overpay revenge offer sheets by the oilers for the next few years.
Like do we really want to have to make a decision on what to do when the next GM of the coilers decides the answer to their problems in net is to throw a massive overpay offer at Wolf next year? All so we can say "We got Broberg!"
I'd rather not.

When was the last time a player acquired via an offer sheet made a difference to a franchise?

Dustin Penner was pretty solid when he first went to the Oilers.
Offer sheets are so rare, feels like a lot of GMs are worried about ruining relationships with other gms.

Another instance of a horse shoe up Edmonton's butt. The ducks used one of the picks to draft Justin Schultz who then walks away from them and signs with the Oilers.

What horseshoe? Schultz helped Edmonton win nothing, regressed, and was traded for a pick that the Oilers used on Filip Berglound, who played 53 games in the AHL and hasnt played since 2022.

We have to find a player who is not too great but not too ####ty. The goldilocks of players. I am hoping we just use every weapon available to use to build out a young talented team.

He was a sought after collage player that chose to go to Edmonton. Edmonton was lucky that Penner offer sheet didn't come back to haunt them.

How would it have haunted them?

Justin Schultz would have been a star had he signed with the Ducks.

Well, if they’re signing them and it’s not going to improve them, then why sign them?
Just throw away a 2nd round pick for giggles?
It’s a bad idea rooted in impatience.

Man, you gotta stop worrying about whether people are returning posters or not. I’m reading it in multiple threads every week or two it seems. Just relax. If people are the same people that got banned multiple times, they’ll probably do the same thing that got them there again with or without you posting about it so it’s better to just let them do it.
Unless it’s the djsFlames/Trent thing. That’s fine to talk about, but only because he tried to pretend to be British for the first bit and that was good cringe content we can all join hands and laugh at.
Plus ####ty posts and stupidity keeps this place ticking. What else is going to keep conversation going through the summer?

There's plenty of stupidity going on in the NHL all the time. It's not like we need to make our own stupidity for fear of running out.

Shcultz was a big piece in the Penguins' repeat cup runs. I imagine he would have had some similar years to Brandon Montour circa 2017-ish had he signed with the Ducks

Why would they?
Power is younger, better, and with tons more control.
And will be better in the future.
