Yeah thats a little overboard. I dont have a problem with a team throwing the ball when having a big lead. However, if theyre throwing Hail Mary-type bombs when up by 35 late in a game, I do think thats a little much. I consider that plain and simple piling on.

Another game that should be a tough game is Green Bay going into KC. The Packers are coming off a short week with that great Monday Night win over Denver. At 6-1 they're on top of the NFC and really they're not that far off of being a 7-0 team themselves. The Chiefs have played tough defence all year and are coming off their bye week at home. If my memory serves me correctly, the Chiefs are a team that Brett Farve has yet to beat in his career. Can Farve take advantage of KC's grey beard corners, or will the short week run the Packers out of gas in a tough environment?

But Hail mary throws are called Hail Mary since they are usually used in desperate situations and are essentially a prayer. Running the ball in the fourth quarter with a lead wears a defense out. Keeps the clock running. Gives the team that is down less of a shot at coming back. If the winning team keeps pitching the ball down the field. It stops the clock if it is incomplete. Gives the defense a chance at an interception. Gives the pass rushers a chance to hit the QB. Maybe my logic is flawed.
Running the ball in the fourth quarter with a lead is a smart thing for the offense to do. Maybe in the Patriots case, they are so good that it doesn't matter what they do. They are going to win and they know it. Why not have fun. More than likely, like others have mentioned, Belicheck just wants to give the rest of the league the finger because of Video Tape Gate.

As a betting man, I would never take a team that has come off a Monday Night game on the road. Who is on the road again after a short week. Of course there are exceptions. The big matchup will be the Packers offensive line vs the Chiefs pass rush of the Liberian Night Mare and the Calf Roping Sack Dance man. (like my nicknames?) Farve is older and less mobil. Allen and Tambi are going to be throthing at the mouth.

I think this game is going to be really good. KC has steadily improved and LJ is starting to run the ball better. Great pick up in Bowe and Gonzalez is... the best receiving tightend of all time... still.
With the lack of a running game, GB is really playing with fire, putting everything on Farve (who's running this team, Andy Reid?).
Finally, what does "throthing" mean?

Oh I know, I didnt mean literally a "Hail Mary" pass. I just meant an absolute bomb, like the Pats did a couple times late in the 2nd half against the Skins, I thought that was weak sauce. And yeah I know of course running the ball is the best method when killing the clock in the 4th quarter of a game you're winning, I just mean that if you're leading by alot, the unwritten NFL sportsmanship rule shouldnt state that you should be handcuffed to this method, ie if its 3rd and 5, I dont see anything wrong with throwing.

I guessed that you knew about running the ball. Just threw that in to explain my point. Anyhow, I do agree. Teams shoudn't be expected to run the clock out when it appears they have a victory in the bag. Most coaches will, because it is the safest thing to do. Like I said before. The fans, or consumers if you will, should not be expected to see a team going half speed because one team has a four TD lead at the half. It isn't fair to the paying customer at all. At home we can just change the channel. Any of you that have been to an NFL game know that it is a big commitment to attend an NFL game. Its a lot of fun. But it is an early morning and a late night. I'm usually worn right out afterwards. Why should somebody who spent the money and invested their entire day to attend the game. Not be treated to the best possible entertainment?

This is one area I think should be discussed in this thread. At what point does a team with a big lead revert to "call off the dogs" status, for those who think it should be done? Because I think halftime is way too early to call it over. I'm not hardcore about it, but I do have a bit of a problem with teams throwing out bombs when up by a ton late in games. But I think the 3rd quarter is entirely too early to let up. If a team's up 35-0 in the 3rd, I have no problem with the leading team playing as fully aggressive as they have all game. I'd say once you enter the 4th quarter(maybe even the 10 minute mark of the 4th) should a team start to consider taking away the downfield attack if they're up by 5 or 6 touchdowns.

I would agree with the 4th quarter/10 minute mark to slow it down. At that point MOST teams are just trying to end the game by controlling the clock. If for some reason the losing team starts coming back (comes within 3 TD) Let er fly!

This goes back a couple dozen pages in this thread, but Jeremy Blooom formerly of the Eagles worked out for Denver this week. The Broncos are fairly deep at WR, but with Rod Smith now done for the year, Javon Walker still out and a iffy return game I wouldn't mind seeing them take a chance on him.
If nothing else, give him a practice squad spot and see what he can do next year in camp.

Rod Marinelli is an idiot.
He has a team that is in contention for a playoff spot.
He's at home against a struggling team.
His team goes up 3-0...he tries an onside kick.
Denver recovers in Lions territory.
MORON.

I think the signing of Jason David was the worst offseason move. They took a small zone CB and are trying to convert him into a cover 2 corner. He's not that fast, has not experience in man and is tiny. Highway #22 isn't alone anymore.

Denver really, really misses Ben Hamilton and Tom Nalen.
Cutler hurt. Game over.
Should've been a 15 yard personal foul, he's already down and 2 more guys come and hit him. BRUTAL

I didn't realize how juvenile this Detroit team is, Kitna excepted. Lots of goofy first down signals and Roy Williams just shook his butt after a big catch.
Grow up.

They're not used to doing anything good.
When they get kicked in the mouth a few times, they'll stop :P

Well I'm not watching the game, but looking at nfl.com it looks like the Chiefs do absolutely nothing in the first half, yet somehow come out of it with a 7-6 lead on the Packers. Packers drive the ball down the field all half, but that late interception gives KC a chance they get a penalty and next thing you know they lead 7-6. Thats a kick in the junk for you. KC better try moving the ball in the second half and try something outside of throwing to Tony Gozalez and running LJ if they want to win this game. I like the defence though...they find ways to make plays. If they'd had this defence 4 years ago they might have been a Superbowl calibre team.

Football is like that. Bills have nearly 250 yards passing from Losman and trail 14-13. Bengals O has done nothing but they got a TD off a KO return.

amazing stat
37 times this season (7 1/2 games) the Broncos have started inside their own 10.
And there is the second late hit on a Broncos QB today with no penalty.

wow. Vikings in a 7-7 game go for a 58 yard FG at the end of the half. It's short by 2 yards and gets taken back 108 yards for a TD. 14-7 SD. Yikes!
