Not necessarily. Depends on what you are doing in tech. Most people I know in tech don't get employment offers twice a week let alone on LinkedIn.

Also, there is a difference between employment offers and recruiters just sniffing you out for potential candidates to fill a position so they can make a commission or signing fee.

I'm looking for a new job. Is there someone on LinkedIn that you can indicate that you are looking?

Join some groups in your area of expertise, and look in the "jobs" sections of those. Also, you can change your status to "looking for new opportunities" or something like that.

Don't mess around too much on LinkedIn but I see people post it in there job titles/descriptions.

Is there a way to block certain people on LinkedIn from seeing your activity? Not that I'm looking for work or anything just curiosity. I have a lot of people through out my company on LinkedIn that one would not necessarily want to see certain things if you were looking for a job.

Yeah, I thought about this as well.

Most of my firm knows I'm leaving, but I'm sure I'll get asked about it from those who don't...

Oh well, it's out there now.

Anyone looking for a really good-looking corporate lawyer for their in-house legal team?

You can turn off your updates and feed I am pretty sure. So if someone looked they would see new content, but it wouldn't wave it in their face

you know, it might be a case of semantics but when they say, "this is the salary range, would you be interested in coming to work for us", sounds like a job offer to me.
but maybe thats a case of just seeing if I'm just interested. Could there be more of an actual "interview" process, maybe. But I take that as an offer of employment.

and as a side note, this is the oil and gas industry. i've only been in it for a couple of years but from what i've seen so far, this kinda stuff happens a lot up here.

Has anyone tried to use LinkedIn to cold-approach a manager, hiring manager or HR Recruiter with a company you applied to? Sometimes you can look up these people and try to connect with them. Is it a good idea to discuss the position in question with employees at the company (maybe the department you're applying to) or even the hiring manager? Any thoughts?

If you applied by email you could just email them again.

Most of the time you apply to an automated system, there's no email or phone number posted. I've thought of seeking out the HR Recruiter or hiring manager on LinkedIn and possibly following up with them, in case the automated system didn't like your resume you may never get a shot. Has anyone tried that before? Any tips?
