this is only like 3 hours away from me.
Personally I don't think homosexuality is right but it's not my choice or right to tell them what to do with their "partners".
Let them go to prom together. At least you don't have to worry about them getting pregnant on prom night.
This is also the dumbest and fattest state in the union. Example a...

Besides what other reason would they bring the whole thing to the forefront unless they were planning on getting busy at prom?
|
I am going to preface this with the fact that I am a Christian.
It does smell of attention.
Imagine this hypothetical situation if you will:
Some preachy self righteous religious organization is in an area that has many gay and lesbian people in high ranking positions in society. All these people do every Sunday is try to go to church, occasionally read the bible in their own house and flaunt their heterosexual relationship in front of EVERYONE.
I am not just talking holding hands, but occasionally some of the younger ones go to clubs and you can see them groping each other!!! I think they might even be having sex in the alley behind the bowling alley. Now the gay community wants this all to stop, we can't have people flaunting thier sexuality like this, so they close all the clubs and cause a large public outcry of prejudice and hate every time one of those freaking hetros shows there face at a public function.
Finally someone decides that enough is enough, and they will not sit down and take this oppression like so many people before them have. They take their hetro partner out to the town sanctioned dance, where all there gay friends are and they want to dance like normal people and not segregated like animals.
Those freaking Hetros, all they want is attention!!
Well, that's correct, they just want to live their life the same way everyone else does, which doesn't involve hiding at home and never touching the person they love in a public place. Crazy hetros, can't they just be gay for one night to please everyone else?
Oh wait, that sounds absurd doesn't it?

I don't think so.
Lol what if they were all over each other on the dance floor?? What do you think narbeZ that lesbians can't help themselves and have to stop every 15 minutes to have sex wherever they happen to be? Lol, they are people they'd be as much or as little all over each other as any other couple there that night would be.
It's not that your post is offensive, so much as it is disappointing.

I saw this story on Yahoo, and was shocked to find out that Mississippi has schools.
Anyway... When I graduated, the after-party was put together by this one girl, and she botched it completely (booze didn't get delivered). Long story short, she could barely show her face around the school after that. And that was just the after-party.
Obviously, the school did this because they're banking on the same thing happening here. They're hoping that the other kids blame this girl for the cancellation and make her life a living hell, so that she'll cave in and drop the issue. It boils down to a group of people who're supposed to be adults playing high school-style politics, and they should be ashamed of themselves.

Ofcourse. That is why they want equality. They want it for the attention it will bring them. Certainly not because they're human. Certainly not that.

I don't understand your need to rag on sexual orientation, but hey.

Then they'd me like most young couples. Happy to shove their tongues down eachother's throats with not cares of how strange they look to those around them. Same thing if they were male. OH NOES! TWO DUDES MAKING OUT! I've made out with other guys. I've seen other guys make out. If it still offends you, well, avoid public at all cost. Gay people are everywhere, and yes, they do PDA.

So do most bible thumpers flipping **** over a couple of people of the same sex swapping spit. The only difference is one is an equality issue the other is a "Being a bigot but having it justified by a 2000 year old fairy tale so I'm not a bigot" issue.

Or because "It had been an issue in the past and they wanted to be open about their plans." like it says in the article.

And then been kicked out when they gave eachother an affectionate peck or held hands? Yeah, that'd be a great prom night. I'd be so pleased to get kicked out for wanting to be affectionate to my date.

It's not an "event." You're essentially telling everyone you know and love, "Listen, I am not the norm and I still want you to care about me."
Your neandrathalic post is proof that it is necessary for people to make the decision to come out carefully, because I'm pretty sure you'd kick your kids out if they did to you, and other people have the same fear.
She's not making a big deal about coming out. She's making a big deal about being treated unfairly and unequally from other people because of her sexual orientation. As far as I'm concerned that's a pretty good reason to say, "Hey, that's not cool." and be pretty pissed.

I don't have the time or patience to make you believe a fairytale but you have the time to write a book about why I should be in favor of two homosexuals attending a prom. Your fighting a losing battle with me my friend and apparently Mississippi.

Maybe Blaster86 is fighting a losing battle with you and Mississippi, but it sounds like Mississippi is losing the battle in a larger context.

The difference between me and you is, I don't have to write a book as to why you should favor it. I don't even have to tell you why you're wrong, it's just cathartic for me. Your beliefs of anger and hatred are dying. Even the people that believe in your god are turning on you. Turning towards equal rights and away from hatred. All I have to do is sit back and watch you struggle against the tide. Sooner than later the message you have will be a whisper and considered nothing more that baseless hate created out of fear of the different.
I don't have to fight a battle with you and Mississippi because the laws that govern both Canada and the United States, sooner than later, will fight it for me. What you're saying will be seen as nothing more than mindless bigotry and what they're doing will be seen as illegal because it is entirely based on hate and creating inequality between human beings.
I win.

You know, while I really disagree with Narbez in his view of this issue I don't think he deserves to be called a jackass or a disgusting human being for his views. There's great irony in these two posts.

I dunno. There is nothing I hate more than hate.
Prejudice, racism, bigotry, discrimination... anyone who preaches any of these - for whatever reason - goes into my black book.
I've always wondered about that though. Hate only begets more hate. So I guess it's one more thing that I don't like about myself. But I just boil over with people spouting garbage like narbeZ did. I remember Michael Moore's TV show going to KKK rallies to have a choir sing love songs and give them helium balloons. And maybe that's a better way to fight hate than a bop on the nose.
