Did you and a large group of friends spontaneously break into an epic choreographed dance routine at prom?

To simplify, the school board had three choices:
A - Allow her to bring a date, just like everyone else (non-discriminatory).
B - Cancel the prom to prevent a lesbian from attending with her date.
C - Prevent her from bringing a date to the prom, but let is proceed for everyone else.
B and C are blatantly discriminatory because she is a lesbian and her date would have been one too.
Not sure what part of this you don't understand. If there's proof that the prom was cancelled to prevent a lesbian from attending with a date, the civil rights lawyers are going to have a field day. And rightfully so.

I understand it all perfectly well thanks, but that's not how a civi rights claim works. By canceling the prom for everyone they aren't treating anyone differently, which is a requirement of the claim.

If it's that cut and dry why is the ACLU bothering?

Except they are. The ACLU claim is not only that the school canceled the prom because this girl is a lesbian, but that the scholl is villifying her for their canceling the prom.

Oh, and immediately after she approached the school to inform them of who she was bringing, they sent a memo to students that forbade bringing someone of the same sex. When she attempted to assert her rights, they canceled the entire thing instead.
Blatant discrimination, and likely a slam dunk case.

The suit is asking for $1 in damages. Looks like she's in it for the right reasons.

Why wouldn't you want lesbians at your high school prom, I mean I'd rather they were incredibly hot lesbians, but talk about getting your party started the right way.
If I was the DJ I'd be alternating between "Hold onto the night" by Richard Marx and "I can't fight this feeling" by REO Speed Wagon.

They can challenge the policy as written, but not as applied. The policy has never been APPLIED to her as the cancellation avoided that.

These girls probably just want to make some headlines.
I also don't see the need for some posters to rag on people's "biblical" beliefs.
Whether you like it or not, these common values and stories have been shared and passed down from family's and churches for thousands of years.
Now I know the new generation of adults/children are going progressively atheist, and I understand that.
On the other hand, just because these girls are homosexuals shouldn't mean that they don't have the right to partake in prom. But lets look at this from the outside.
What would it be like if they were all over each other on the dancefloor? Myself I would be ready to throw up. There is also a flipside to this, what if they were male?
I say, these girls can be "straight" for one more night.
The whole thing smells of attention.
Besides what other reason would they bring the whole thing to the forefront unless they were planning on getting busy at prom?
They could just go as two girls, and all of this attention could never have happened.
I STILL, don't understand why it has to be such an "event" to come out of the closet.
