Jenny McCarthy can tell you the truth about vaccinations.

I can tell you that he's out for this Sunday's game--won't need surgery, but he's week-to-week.
Working in a salon is crap for cold/flu season. Last year one of our regular clients came in with fataing bronchitis, and my co-worker ended up sick for two weeks.
My boss has brought in a bottle of hand sanitizer for each of our stations, plus the waxing area and the front desk, she has four cans of Lysol up front, as well as three containers of the Lysol wipes, and she's on our cases constantly to wash our hands, sanitize them, etc. She's a bit of a germaphobe anyway, so she's really freaking out.

FWIW, my family doctor advised against rushing out to get the swine flu vaccine because it's *potentially* being rushed to market and hasn't been that thoroughly tested.
MMR vaccines well... that's another issue entirely.

I'm getting paranoid about this thing. I notice people sneezing a lot more lately. I don't know if they are sneezing more, or I'm noticing more sneezing due to paranoia and they are just sneezing at regular rates.
I was in a meeting the other day and a guy sneezed and the person sitting next to him halfway ran out the door. That didn't help me.

The only people who get Tamiflu or Relenza here are the very young, the very old or the immunologically compromised. Otherwise, everyone just has to suck it up. My girlfriend's swine flu lasted for about a week-and-a-half.

It's really just a typical flu vaccine, and will have been adequately tested before it gets distributed. There are always risks from vaccines, but much lower than the risks from the disease itself (typical rates of severe adverse reactions from flu vaccines in Canada are on the order of 1 in 1,000,000 according to the Public Health Agency, compared to severe reactions at a rate of 1 in 100 from influenza and a death rate of about 1 in 1000). There have been a few articles on flu risks vs. benefits at sciencebasedmedicine.org lately. A lot of people worry about Guillain-Barre syndrome from flu vaccines, but you have a much higher chance of getting that after the flu or another infection than from the vaccine.
Best not to get me started on what I think of Jenny McCarthy and other celebrities with their misguided opinions on MMR and other vaccines (anyone who trusts Hollywood celebrities for medical advice deserves what they get, but it's usually their children that suffer the consequences).

Well... there's a lot more people than just Jenny McCarthy and "celebrities" who question vaccines and the rampant increase in vaccination protocols over the last 20-25 years.
As for the flu vaccine, I respect your opinion but I'll probably listen to my doctor's advice. Also I saw this quote in the Calgary Herald:
Regulators have been working on ways to reduce the time required for getting the vaccine out, raising concerns people will be exposed to an incompletely tested vaccine.
"We're rushing to get them out in time so the testing is going to be for a very short period of time, and on a comparatively small sample of people," says Arthur Schafer, director of the Centre for Professional and Applied Ethics at the University of Manitoba.
"The vaccine will be less well tested, and the entire Canadian supply with be adjuvanted," he said.
Adjuvants are compounds added to vaccines that boost the effect of the dose. "The adjuvant chemical potentially makes this a much riskier drug to give to children or pregnant women," Schafer says.

I could dig it up and quote some I guess. I honestly don't really want to get into a big debate about it though, I've seen the vaccine debate start on CP before and I don't really want to get involved. I'm not well informed. I'm nervous about vaccinations and I'm nervous about the thought of not vaccinating. My family doctor recommends the regular vacinnations (MMR, DPT, etc.), but was less positive about the swine flu vaccine at this time.
That about sums up my thoughts on it.

that is somewhat understandable, but the FDA just approved, yesterday IIRC, the newest vaccine for H1N1...and IIRC how it was decided was on the advice of the WHO as well as the CDC in the US.
I shouldnt need it now that i have it, but i wouldnt hesitate had i not. The blond is going day 1 they show up here....if she doesnt get the virus herself.

I wouldn't really consider a Homeopathic Seminar to be a credible source either - these are people that make a living selling people water and sugar pills and telling people it will cure all their diseases, after all. The guy in the Herald you quoted is also not really a medical expert. Your family doctor is probably more credible though - most doctors seem to be recommending the vaccine, but apparently not all. Not being in a high priority group myself there will be a lot more time to evaluate any risks before my turn comes anyhow.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dpq-wvw_hHg Dateline with Matt Lauer on MMR vaccine....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGrOS75I66g another Clip.
There is more, but I do not have the time to track it down.
The whole thought process in regards to Vaccines maybe having a link to Autism started with Dr. Andrew Wakefield. One Paper supports it, there are thousands that have come out against it. It is a good watch.
As for the Flu Vaccine, the reason it is coming out in Mid-November (after the suspected peak of H1N1) is so they can make sure it is safe. If they were rushing it out with no regards to human safety it would be out allready.

So Transplant, are you 100% better now? Worst sickness you've ever had? Should we off ourselves now to spare us the agony?

Sorry to bump and old thread
I haven't been officially diagnosed, but I have been fighting off the flu this past weekend.
Started suddenly with a severe headache and exhaustion Friday night
Next came fever, cough, chills and muscle ache
Was bed ridden most of Saturday and Sunday
Today I'm much better, the only remaining things are sporadic coughing fits and muscle aches. Airways are clear though
I knew enough to quarantine myself at home and hand sanitized everything I touched.
Anyways, I'm on my way to beating this thing and hope others don't have to go through this

just saw this now...sorry.
yeah i am fine now...and yes by far the worst flu i have ever experienced. Its not even the fever/coughing....that was similar to most flu's i have had, but the aching/soreness of the entire body was just brutal. Everything hurts...everything.

Hmmm... I had a headache since Thursday. I'm not one for headaches, don't really ever get them unless something else is going on, was worried I was getting the flu, peaked last night, but seems to have settled down - but feel a little "pre cold" symptoms. Hope whatever it was has been almost defeated and I'm recovering.
Glad to hear you're alive tranny, did you infect "the blond?"
