Browns give-up in week 5, trade Edwards. The re-build begins again:
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...e_braylon.html
In the clearest demonstration yet that it's Eric Mangini's way or the highway, the Cleveland Browns traded receiver Braylon Edwards to the New York Jets today.
The deal, while Edwards is still being investigated by Cleveland police and the NFL for allegedly punching a man outside a nightclub early Monday morning, also reflects the Jets' desperation to provide a No. 1 receiver for rookie franchise quarterback Mark Sanchez.
Mangini also traded with the Jets, his former team, to hand-deliver them Sanchez on the day of the draft. The Jets announced the terms.
Coming to the Browns are receiver Chansi Stuckey; Jason Trusnik, a linebacker and special teams player from Macedonia and Ohio Northern University; and undisclosed draft picks.
Why are they letting Mangini have his way, when he will be fired any week now?

Quinn puts home up for sale:
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...puts_avon.html
Quinn is missing out on about $11 million in salary escalators in his contract by not being on the field for 70 percent of the snaps this season. His is signed through 2011.
http://www.cleveland.com/ohio-sports...s_roundup.html
Peter King writes, among other things:I've got a feeling that Cleveland 6, Buffalo 3 didn't put much salve on the wounds of Browns fans. I know many of them, and one e-mailed me Sunday night after the Browns' first win of the year -- which featured 2-of-17 passing by the starting quarterback. It says much about this edition of the Browns that their star of the game was punter Dave Zastudil. "When the game ended, I felt nothing,'' said my buddy, who grew up in Cleveland and now works on the East Coast. "Zero. Completely numb. It's become so bad, even wins have become all but meaningless.''

The Browns should just switch to the Wild Cat. I mean if you're only going to complete 2 out of your 23 forward pass attempts....4 tight ends, a full back and try for 3.33 yards on every play!

A ton of teams have called about Cribbs. Dolphins, Colts, Chiefs, Raiders, 49ers are all interested.
Like I said in the other thread, I really would like for Indy to make a deal for him.

The Chiefs are pretty bad, they do have the home field advantage though.

Browns to be busy before trade deadline?
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...at_the_ce.html
Will the Browns add to their stockpile of picks in the 2010 draft by swinging another deal before today's 4 o'clock NFL trade deadline?
The prominent names mentioned in rumors have been quarterback Brady Quinn, specialist Josh Cribbs and defensive end Corey Williams.
Not-so-prominent rumors have posed trade possibilities involving linebacker Kamerion Wimbley, nose tackle Shaun Rogers, and, yes, even left tackle Joe Thomas.
Why are the Browns the subject of so many rumors? That's obvious. Coach Eric Mangini has not been shy about pulling the trigger on trades to rid his locker room of players not with his program.

Rumors out there that the Browns aren't going to be selling out games here. Which for the Dog Pound says something about how down people are on the team. I don't think anyone will accuse the people of Cleveland of not being football fans.

Browns fire GM:
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...wns_gm_ge.html
Less than 24 hours after Browns owner Randy Lerner pledged to add a new "credible, serious leader" to reorganize his football operations, the team parted ways with General Manager George Kokinis.
Kokinis was seen leaving the Browns' facility around noon on Monday carrying two travel bags. He was shown out by Lew Merletti, senior vice president, and Mike Nikolaus, human resource director.
Two weeks ago, Lerner added former quarterback Bernie Kosar as a team consultant. Last week, the team dismissed Erin O'Brien, Mangini's former personal assistant with the New York Jets who was team operations director with the Browns.
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...browns_hi.html
Former Browns General Manager Ernie Accorsi is not part of the reorganization of the club's football operations, he said this morning.
Accorsi, who last served as general manager of the New York Giants, said he is "happily retired" and has not been in contact with Browns owner Randy Lerner regarding a consultant position.

Cleveland is looking for another solution.
On Saturday at NBC, I reported Cleveland owner Randy Lerner has spoken with, or will speak with, former Super Bowl-team architects and/or coaches Ron Wolf, Mike Holmgren and Ernie Accorsi about the football czar position he hopes to fill to set his organization on a better path. Translation: He wants someone with a great résumé to be a helping hand for Mangini -- and, depending how the rest of the year goes, to perhaps be the one who tells Lerner, "You've got to fire this guy and start over. Again.''
I believe Lerner still has faith in Mangini, but that the faith has been shaken by the work environment in the building that would cause two of the people Mangini trusts most in the world, O'Brien and Kokinis, to be vanquished by midseason of their first year together in Cleveland. I think nothing would make Lerner happier than to hire Holmgren, hand him a five-year GM contract, and finally believe he's put the right man in place to steer the team out of its Washington Nationals-type funk.
There's no question a new boss is needed. For too long, this team has made knee-jerk financial decision that will haunt Lerner's bottom line for year. He's on the hook to Romeo Crennel and Phil Savage for $21 million, which you know if you've followed this story. But what you don't know is the three-year, $6-million extension the team handed offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski late in Crennel's tenure. That's the reason Lerner needs a Holmgren (or an Accorsi or Wolf). If someone in the office mentioned handing a hard-working but unproven coordinator $2 mill a year, Holmgren would say one of two things: "Hey, I'll do it for $2 million a year,'' or "Are you out of your mind?''
Lerner wants the new man on board very soon so he could make an educated recommendation about Mangini's fate soon after the season. One of the reasons there's a little pressure on the Mangini decision is that the team will likely be in the market for a quarterback in the April draft. It'd be silly to have Mangini make the pick, unless Lerner was certain Mangini was his man to lead the team into the future.
And if Mangini goes, that would bring to at least $35-million the amount of money Lerner would be paying people to not work for the Browns. This team needs a life-preserver in the worst way.

The big week is finally here. Unfortunately neither of these teams are fighting (or laying down) for the first overall pick in the draft. Can anyone believe there are teams actually worse than the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cleveland Browns this season?
The Cleveland Browns are coming off a big upset of the defending Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers last Thursday. The Chiefs are coming off a loss at home to the inept Buffalo Bills. The Browns will be the third team in a row KC is facing that has played a Thursday night game the previous week.
Recent Browns news. (mostly Mike Holmgren rumors)

Recent Chiefs news. (mostly about the return of Dewayne Bowe and the recent play of Matt Cassel).

Predictions:
Browns by 9.

Josh Cribbs was on the Sirius Blitz this morning. He wants to stay with the Browns but would also like a new contract in the next 3 weeks. Not sure if a team with no GM and trying to fill it's head of football operations is going to be able to do that.
It was a good spot though he talked about Mangini liking his PHD players. Poor, Hungy, and Discarded guys who are willing to fight like dogs for their football careers. With the number of ex-CFL, UFL, and practice squad guys the Browns have a lot of no name types wanting to prove themselves. I see the Browns gutting out another 13-7 win over a KC team that looks confused and makes some goofy play calls.

That could explain why the Browns stink.

They do have some serious talent issues, and they're pretty beaten up right now. But they did play like dogs against Pittsburgh on Thursday. Who knows though how did the Chiefs and Raiders do after beating Pittsburgh...they get obliterated the next week.

There is a real good chance that this game will be blacked out in KC.

Brady Quinn is never going to cut it. He can't be trusted to throw the ball.
