I dont mind Cheers so long as it isnt delivered with a faux english accent. This broad I went to school with travelled to Australia for a year and came back with a faux accent she used for slang she picked up there.

I'm the same way. Usually finish off with "thanks" or "blah blah blah are we going to location blah blah blah. Let me know if you can make it. Name"

Also, when someone greets their email like:

Name,

blah blah email, blah

Regards/Best/Thanks,

Name

That sort of annoys me too. Suposedly supposedly to sound formal, but I have friends that do that too. It sometimes sounds like they are ordering me when they write like that, so I just ignore their email.

I've used cheers to end my e-mails for years. It's not to sound hip.. it's just a cheery way of ending an e-mail.

Don't get so upity!

did not read this thread until now, i thought CP was introducing a [Cheers] button in additional to the [Thanks] one.

Seeing as my staple "Cheers" is out of the question, I guess I'll start using...

"Peace".

There, that's better.

I would use a nice 'Peace Brah' or 'Later Dude'.

If there should be any concern it would be 'Yours Truly'. Seriously what the hell is that supposed to mean? Is it a catalyst for the increase in divorce rates in Canada?

I definitely use "Peace Brah" more than anyone should.

I actually say "peace" a lot when I'm saying goodbye on the phone. And I answer with "yo".

Call display helps though, now I know exactly who is calling so I don't have to say hello anymore unless it is a number I don't recognize.

I was involved in a conversation one day about how great it would be to sign off with:

Banana Hammockly Yours,
Name

... but maybe you had to be there.

My father said Cheerio - he used the term as a sign off when he flew with the ATA during the Second World War and it stuck. To an Englishman it always meant 'good bye and good luck'.

According to our legal dept. it implies that you actually created the message you are sending via email or letter. Not someone else on your behalf.

Really? Cool. I just do it because I've never seen anyone else do it. And because I don't like to say regards or cheers or sincerely. I think it ends the email nicely and being a signature move on my part, people get used to me always ending my emails that way. I do it in personal and professional emails. So if any of you have ever had dealings with a guy that always ends his emails that way, maybe you and I know each other...

This raises the concern I have had...slightly. I often will say no worries when someone cuts me off or bumps me or whatever. I don't know where I picked it up but it is just out of my mouth before I think of it. Then I worry that I sound like the dreaded try hard. Then I tell myself no worries and feel better.

Cheers! (first ever)

I had a teenage angst crisis when I was 16 and working at the gas bar. People would always say thank you to me after filling their car and I'd always say you're welcome. Then one day I thought about it and decided that I should really lame and I needed to replace that phrase, so I made a conscious effort to say no problem instead. Ah, the things that the teenage mind dwells on.
