I agree, I don't think the actual information of who voted for a particular post is important to display, it's the actual rating for the post that's important.

Unfortunately the system isn't built that way and there's no plugin that does that yet, so I have to try to hack this one to do what I want. Or write another one, but that's a time commitment I can't make.

I disagree on the negative part though, we don't want to encourage group think or people giving negative posts to opposing teams' fans just because they're greasy Oiler fans.

Let's "Digg" a post up or down!

That's what comes to mind when a +/- rating can be applied to a post. Not saying that I disagree with it....

Yup, Digg, or Slashdot with their post moderation, those kinds of systems.

Coming up with an idea is the easy part, it's getting it implemented that's more difficult

So because he's stated that, I can't give my opinion?

I love the use of the "I appreciate the admins and you don't" card. You're right, just because I don't like the way a new feature has been implemented and have chosen to make a post to voice said opinion, I am "jumping all over him". I guess you are the best member on this board and everyone else are a bunch of asses - congratulations.

The tone of your post in context with what I had posted earlier does make it sound like you are jumping all over someone.

Everyone - "It's cool but it's ugly."
Me - "I agree it's ugly, working on that to fix it"
Madman - "I think it's ugly."
Everyone - "..."

See what I mean?

ken0042 isn't playing the I appreciate card, ken0042 is a MODERATOR asking you to be patient.

Yeah, I can see why you'd want to change it.

There are a few other boards that have a 'rating' system, where you basically 'agree/disagree' with a post, but I don't really like that. At least not here on CP. Like Photon said, you'd end up with Flames fans organizing a Jihad against those dirty greasy Oiler fans.

If there would be a way to simply say 'good post'....and have it show up in your user account, along the lines of '5 new comments'.....and you can see what post was repped.

With the big "thanks" box, could it be automatically hidden using JavaScript and a little + sign that would open the box when clicked? something like this....

Thinking out loud...

Here's my two cents. I think the idea is a well-meaning one, but the Thank You Box tends to clutter up a thread too much. It just adds a lot more to the screen.

Is there a way so that that the only person who sees the Thank You is the person who created the post? It would be a nice message, but it really would cut down on the size of threads that way.

Otherwise, CPers will all end up with carpal tunnel syndrome from all this scrolling!

Default Thumbs up type icon and the # of times clicked goes here, all the way to the end --->

Yeah that might work too, though even the list of names seems not that important to me.

Kind of what I have in mind is in the title bar of each post there would be an icon that would give the thanks and a rating of how many thanks that post had received.

Visual enough that it's easy to identify posts that have that but not obtrusive.

I might be blind, but is there a way to disable the feature so that you dont see when people get thanked?

Really like that idea. Also, would like to add my name to the chorus of people who find the 'thanks' box cluttering and distracting.

Good idea, but the implementation is waaay too intrusive.
With all due respect to Photon et al for their work on this, jumping on Madman was unjustified.

I agree with him wholeheartedly.

You wanted feedback, he gave it. And I agree with it too! Ken jumped on him in error, in my opinion. If anything, he deserves an apology.

"Agree" or "Disagree", even "Offensive" should be the norms for options. And no, I don't believe it will become an Oilers hate on... there are enough crappy "Flames fan" posts to balance that out.

Well the mod doesn't have a "no thanks" feature to it at all, so that's not really an option without rewriting the mod even more extensively than I would already have to.

As to all the jumping, sheesh.. Please keep in mind that forum communication is difficult at times, I always try to think how someone will take what I post. I'm not upset over anything that's been posted and I tried to explain to Madman what the other perspective on how it was phrased in a friendly way and I got the impression that he got what I was saying, so it's all good, no need to regurgitate it.

Weird I don't have the thanks button. Did I wrongly get classified as an oiler fan and have it blocked from my login.
