Actually Avian Flu can be carried by many animals, even people so I guess by your reasoning we should just nuke the planet.

I don’t know if you think hyperbole like this proves your point, but it makes you look dramatic and stupid.
Like I said before and you ignored it, we can’t control all wild animals, but we can control farmed animals to prevent the spread of disease. So yes, it started with ducks, then who did it spread to after that? We can’t control what wild animals have it but we can help limit exposure to wild animals which do not have the avian flu.

Their responsibility was to report the bird flu to CIFA. They failed. Why do you think that reporting requirement shouldn’t apply to that farm.
Weren’t you a fish and wildlife officer at one point? You should should understand why this is improtant.

I fully understand how bird flu is spread. I also know that there is zero chance that any remaining ostrich has it. You can't stop Avian Flu currently, it's everywhere. You would literally have to kill off all avian wildlife to stop it. Governments should be putting money into finding a way to introduce a vaccine but they won't spend money on that.

Am I missing something here? Are the Ostrich livestock or are they pets? If they are livestock, the government should just compensate the farmers and cull the birds, farmer buys new birds.
Are they special racing Ostrich and the compensation is too low?

Other birds, primarily, but there have been increasing detections of avian influenza in mammalian species. This is problematic, because each infection is an opportunity to for the virus to mutate into a form that is more transmissible amongst mammals.

So why are they stopping the ostriches from being tested to see if they carry it? If that's what this is about why would the CFIA which is about useful as tits on a wooden goat with how much they bungle everything be opposed to it? I said if they carry it then destroy the birds. Why is CFIA threatening these people if they pay to have their birds tested?

The government refuses to compensate them if they destroy the birds.

Wild birds, particularly waterfowl, are reservoirs for avian influenza. This is why farms are supposed to employ strict biosecurity measures that mitgate exposure to wild birds and to ensure water and feed are not accessible to wild birds (there are still issues in the US where cat food is contaminated with avian influenza).
If biosecurity cannot be ensured and a population becomes infected, then it is to be culled to prevent further spread. The reason why CFIA will not test further is because the cull order was made and any subsequent testing is irrelevant. Like I said, this situation is atypical, because depopulation standardly occurs almost immediately, and why this ongoing litigation is dangerous.

No, this is not true. It is 100% standard practice to compensate farmers if depopulation occurs. However, because this particular farm has refused to comply, instead of compensation, they have been fined.

Why do you think you and the farm understands the regulations and science better than the experts?
Furthermore, why the #### do you or anyone else even care? Seriously. So many other issues of government overreach, if a few hundred ostriches get killed and weren't a threat as is claimed, why does this specifically matter to you?

No, this ongoing litigation is important so government organizations like CFIA can't take away people's rights and freedoms without proper compensation or lawful reasoning. You are arguing that the government should not be challenged on any order even if the courts might have doubts about that order as they do now. Perhaps you would do better in the US with that mindset.

It matters to me because when a branch of government says this is what's happening and even if you can prove a reason it shouldn't that is too bad, we have I'll do it anyhow. That's how you start becoming what the States is becoming. When a government branch says this is what we are doing, you can't challenge if it's right that's a damn slippery slope to go down. When the government says they have to do the cull and you can't do we don't have to compensate you that is even scarier.

I think one of the original complaints was that compensation was too low, which I do think could be a legitimate issue in this scenario. Ostriches are ovbiously very different from your standard poultry that are typically affected under the stamping out policy Canada employs.

If the government does the cull they can withhold the payment.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...iner-1.7644796
According to the farms FB page they were told if they lose their case the CFIA will immediately do the cull and they do not have the option at this point to do the cull themselves.

Dude, this is the globally-accepted practice to contain outbreaks of avian influenza and other high-consequence pathogens. If a farmer cannot abide by the law, then they should not be in the business.
Every level of court to date has sided with CFIA policy and mandate. This is not draconian.

The Supreme Court gave them a stay so clearly you have zero idea wtf you are even babbling about when you say every level of court. Until you educate yourself perhaps you should sit this one out instead of looking like a fool.
