I guess the question is then: What happened that is forcing the Flames fans to suffer horribly as they watch Edmonton flourish
Ever since 'sitting in the Dome chilling with Jarome' came out in 2004, each time the Flames make the playoffs there's always some local aspiring hip hop artist trying to cash in on the action sponsored by 98.5 vibe/virgin radio. I'm certain today's hockey timeline from the spring of 2022 to today is directly the result of the negative karma this guy put into the world for this earbleeder and cringeworthy video and appearances during the 2022 Playoffs.

Oilers aren't causing any suffering for Flames fans. In fact the exact opposite. Every story needs a good villain and they are playing that role at an Oscar level. Shady owner, shady management, unlikable players on the roster and no cups. What more could you ask for as an opposing fan?
Sure it's extremely annoying that Rogers and HNIC has tried (and failed) their darndest to make them Canada's team but I'm sure that it's equally annoying to Canucks fans knowing that no matter how well the Canucks do, or how good Hughes is, that it's always going to be second fiddle as MacLean and the cronies gush about McDavid and the Oilers. Like a bad rash, this will all pass in time as the decline of the Oilers is happening before our eyes anyway whether they re-sign McDavid or not.

Reading the Hughes comments makes me almost feel sorry for the Canucks, but then I remember it's the Canucks. Hopefully they'll stick around 9th-10th in the West for several more seasons.
On a seperate note: Huberdeau($10.5M until 2031, age 31-38) for Pettersson($11.6M until 2032, age 26-33), 1 for 1, who says no? It could be a great buy low option, capitalizing on a pretty good season from Huberdeau. I doubt Huberdeau would want to go to VAN though.
#1 centers are hard to get but I don't think Pettersson is that guy. They usually come with warts but his seems like the worst of the bunch that have been traded previously and hard to fix.
He was called out by his GM during the season, the coach just gave out a laundry list of issues with him.
On the other hand, Huberdeau is getting praise from everyone and how important he was to the team and the young players.
Huberdeau was buried by his coach in year 1 and has had trouble producing but has never blamed anyone.
Wow seeing Rutherford publicly out that Hughes has told the Canucks he wants to play with his brothers is a preparing the fan base to lose him type move.
Basically: Its not our fault, he wants to play with his brothers.
Well you can't complain about the frankness. I suppose their only option is to offer him a McDavid sized contract and see if the money can sway the player.
There's a lot in that 42 seconds. They need to tell him to shut the f up. Transparency is great but holy cow. I love the uncomfortable murmur as he actively tampers when speaking about bringing the Hughes to Vancouver.
No Willander signing yet, no practice facility (Calgary is the only other team in the NHL without one), Petey is a mess, no Tocchet extension yet.....what a gong show out west.

There’s something admirable in the way a lot of elderly people just speak their minds without caring about what anyone else thinks. It must be liberating to take an IDGAF approach to what you say.
However, I’m not sure it’s a great quality in the top executive of a professional sports team.

Absolute wild press conference. Was pretty well known he wanted to be a New Jersey Devil but to say that in the media is kind of crazy IMO. I wonder how Hughes feels about it all aired out. Hughes will be traded at the trade deadline either next season or the season after. If other teams know he will be a 1 playoff rental or 2 playoff rental it will effect the return. Vancouver should trade him during the 2025-2026 trade deadline so they could tell teams worst case you get him for 2 playoffs.
Crazy that Miller, Boeser, Demko and Hughes (4 of their top 5 players) could be gone in a matter of 2 and a half seasons.
The worst part about being a Flames fan where I am, and with the people I know, I can't even be smug with all my friends and coworkers when the Canucks fail because when they do, they all simply just stop caring.
So true!
I try to talk a bit of trash & no one even talks Canucks anymore.
You just end up the weird guy talking hockey to people who no longer talk hockey.

I'm sure Hughes isn't happy that the cat is out of the bag. Even if everyone assumed he wanted to play with his brothers, the player would not want that to get out as confirmed while he's still in Vancouver for two more seasons (or less). It just makes things uncomfortable for the player, team, fans, etc.

Most likely why they let it out. Once Hughes is traded, he will be the villain and not the team.
