It’s strange how some coaches get so enamoured wit certain players. No matter how they poor play, they rarely get benched. For Huska - that’s Rooney and Sharangovich. To be fair, Rooney had a good game tonight.
The flame have been to overtime 2 in the last week and Coronato has gotten a total of 30 seconds of overtime shifts. But Sharangovich is getting multiple shifts in OT.
The shootout choices were strange too. Kadri scored a beautiful goal on a deke in the game yet isn’t one of the shooters? I know lots of coaches simply go by results in practices when guys do some shootout drills but I’m not a big fan of that. I prefer to keep it simple. Whoever is playing the best (offensively) lately - i.e. scoring goals - should shoot. Go with the hot stick. I remember during the last of the iginla years, the flames were fighting tooth and nail to make the playoffs and Iginla was ona crazy scoring streak. Was on something like a 9-10 game goal streak. And they went to a shootout in a must win game but the coach didn’t have him as a shooter. It was unreal. Whether they are good in shootouts or not, go with the hot hand.

This was a chance to control their destiny though and derail Van's season.
And they've been sitting for 3 days.
It feels a lot better to beat teams outright for the spot you're competing for than rely on other teams to do it.
It's just part of what's made this team disappointing since they dismantled the former core. They show up enough to be in it, but they don't show up when you really want them to.
Last core never showed up when it mattered most either.
Huska has not had a single season as a head coach in professional hockey with a win prcentage above .500. Not one. He has made the playoffs 1 out of 5 (soon to be 6) years. He gets the illusion of being an above .500 coach with lots of loser points.
To me this is exactly what his system is designed to do. All about trying not to make mistakes, don't take chances, never be out of position. The idea of pushing the play or doing something other than playing it super safe is not allowed. It's why we can't win in OT. It's why we constantly try to protect a 1 goal lead in the third and end up losing.
Huska is not a good coach. He's not a development coach, he's not a strategic coach. He's 100% about trying not to lose. To quote Shoresy, he doesn't hate to lose.
Flames have some talent in the pipeline, and keeping this guy around to coach them is a surefire way to either grind them down or force them out of the organization.

OT exposes the utter lack of offensive IQ because more than the forwards, our best D are just not good enough. Anderson or Weegar absolutely can't carry 3 on 3 play properly. Hopefully with Parekh we at least have the solution for that to look forward to.

Forearm to the head that caused a player to leave the game, delivered in retaliation for a clean check... I wouldn't be surprised if they look at it, but probably a fine at worst?
I don't know, I can never predict the DOPS.

So it's essentially assured that Montreal will get our first and we'll keep the Florida first, correct?
So likely picking in the 27-30 range? Plus we should get Jersey's first rounder which will be close to where ours will be based on current standings. So around the middle.
Wolf is awesome. Makes it look easy. I'm also super stoked that Huberdeau has found a way to change his game. He is another positive.
Like everyone else I'm pretty tired of seeing Sharangovic out there in key moments. I get that want him to get going but it's painful to watch. Hopefully Huska has now learned they can't just sit back and defend a lead like that. They don't have the D core for that at the moment.

Oh man I just now realized it was the OTHER Elias Pettersson that he did that to.

It looks pretty bad in the first angle here but I can't find another replay.
