if the jackets get him for close to free, they've made some pretty interesting moves to build a not bad d-core (except the Jiricek trade, didn't much like that).
Werenski - Fabbri
Provorov - Severson
Trouba - Gudbranson
isn't a bad group

Brady may end up eventually forcing their hand (maybe he already is?). He's tired of being on a losing team, and Ottawa has made a number of significant mistakes in team building:
To ARZ: 1st, 2nd, 2nd
To OTT: Chychrun
One year later, they trade Chychrun for a 3rd and Jensen. Woof.
To CHI: 1st (7th overall), 2nd (39th overall), 3rd
To OTT: Debrincat
One year later, they trade Debrincat for a 1st, and 4th. Yikes.
That's just beyond stupidity.

No. I'm talking about the team not being able to put a NMC guy on waivers. A player can waive any condition he wants. The two uses of waive are entirely different.

If Ottawa trades Tkachuk, somebody needs to fired immediately. You don’t trade a guy like that unless he wants out and forces your hand.
Not that I believe the rumor.

That being the key part. If Brady gets traded, it's going to be because Brady wanted to get traded.

It would have to be a massive package going back the other way, perhaps including Laf…

I would bet Matthew asking for a trade, then going to the Stanley cup finals 2 years in a row and winning a cup could have impacted Brady if he has asked to be traded.

Hopefully somebody wants someone to eat part of Trouba's deal for a sweetener. Maybe? Hopefully.

I doubt they will. They probably aren't getting a good return and would rather waive than retain. I'm sure Columbus, SJ, Chicago would all be interested in Trouba for free.

Only problem is Flames have limited retention spots due to the Markstrom trade

I think he means a middle trading partner to take part of the retention of the salary on for a 4th round pick or something. And then trade to the ultimate destination. NYC can trade Trouba to that team 50% and that team trades 50% retained to the ultimate recipient and they end up with Trouba for $2M.
So would the Flames pay Trouba $2M for a year and a half for a 4th?

Probably something stupid like a high scoring forward one year away from free agency, a good defenceman one year from free agency, a 1st, and some sort of recent 2nd round pick.

Yeah you are right. Mis read that.
4th isn't enough to retain for 2 years and waste one of our spots.
Rumored teams don't really need it either

Agreed, if the Flames would use a retention, return is higher than a 4th.

True, though I don't see why the rumoured teams want Trouba at all - he's a guy a contender adds, not a developer. There's gotta be a lot bigger trade if it's say, Ottawa.
