Feeling vindicated for my dislike of Zadorov/Lindholm and those contracts. Zadorov is one of the most overrated players in the league. He should be on a bottom pairing making #6 money and Lindholm fell off a cliff.

I dunno if Sweeney should go or not, the decision to retool instead of rebuild likely came from ownership and people above him.

lots of discussion on Blues radio about bringing Montgomery back to St. Louis. Armstrong gave him an opportunity after his exile from Dallas, and Montgomery's wife is from here.

The bruins tried too hard to directly replace what Bergeron provided at centre, and picked up a wish.com version of him in Lindholm.

It's like insanity. Did the Canucks and Bruins not watch any tape of Lindholm after Johnny left?
he isn't even worth $4mil/year let alone what the Bruins are paying him.
Talk about an Allstar bump!

That rumored negotiation last fall with Lindholm wanting $9.3 and the Flames being low 8's AAV is so scary, looking back.

Yeah, he had a very solid playoffs, so it was likely a double whammy of the all star and playoff bump

I don't think it wasn't until sometime into Bettman's tenure that the NHL prevented teams from compensating other teams for hiring away their coaches.
Maybe I'm remembering things incorrectly but I think teams would give up draft picks to talk to assistant coaches if they wound up hiring them.

There was compensation for staff for a while, although I'm not sure if it extended to assistant coaches.
Quote:
For the past 11-plus months, any team hiring a coach or executive from another team had to surrender either a second- or third-round draft pick, depending on the time of year.
Five third-round picks and two second-round picks have been given up so far under the policy, and Bettman said those selections won't be given back.
"Everybody operated under the same rules for a year," Bettman said.
Oilers biggest losers
The Oilers were the biggest losers of the policy, having to send a second-round pick to the Bruins for Chiarelli and a third-round pick to the San Jose Sharks for coach Todd McLellan. The Toronto Maple Leafs gave up third-round picks to the Detroit Red Wings and New Jersey Devils for coach Mike Babcock and GM Lou Lamoriello, respectively.
|
It ended because the original idea had been to compensate teams who lost up and coming coaches or executives, but ended up being teams hiring coaches that had been fired.
