Here is the report on it from Staples (just his thoughts - not all the tweets he reposted):
"My take
1. I can’t see the Oilers letting go of these two players. At worst, Edmonton would match the offer, then trade both players in the hopes of getting more than a second round pick for Broberg and a third round pick for Holloway. Both are worth more than the NHL compensation scheme allows.
2. Suddenly, the talk of Evander Kane from Bob Stauffer of the Oilers makes far more sense to me. If Kane is banged up at all, it would make sense that he have time to fully recover. If he’s out for a few months doing so, this will give Edmonton time to either move out Broberg or Holloway, or trade away some other players in order to get cap compliant.
3. Of course, you also match because you don’t want to give St. Louis a win out of this, and getting Broberg and Holloway for those prices a great deal for them. Offer sheets are within the collective bargaining agreement, but they’re still resented in the NHL to some extent. I can see little chance that the OIlers would let the Blues walk away with their two players.
4. Outsiders celebrating this move today? Hey, it’s a free world, but it’s interesting to see which supposedly impartial NHL observers dislike the Oilers."
Ummm hilarious... I believe it was mentioned earlier in this thread that they can't trade either player for one full year from the offer sheet signing, so there goes his #1 point. You would think that a "professional writer" would know the situation before making that suggestion. LOL

Hahahaha I love it.
A lot of you are sleeping on Broberg. He was behind Ekholm and pylon. If he gets a legitimate chance at a top 4 role in STL this will look like a bargain.
Oilers likely match Holloway and just find a garbage D for the bottom pairing. This will get Edmonton scrambling for sure.

If the Oilers match both then they’re going to have to offer an insane package to get rid of Nurse or a 1st to get rid of Ceci. It’s a win-win for Oilers haters.

It said 4 years at first.
It's fine for the Blues. The Flames aren't in a position to waste picks on these types of players. We can weaponize our space to take on picks with a bad contract.

Have to consider that Bowman is not respected by the league. If anything, sticking it to him would help bolster a GM’s standing amongst other GMs.

Staples not having a basic understanding of the rules of offer sheets is hilarious and totally on brand for that hack

The oilers are positioned to lose a player drafted 8th overall and another drafted 14th overall for a 2nd and 3rd round pick.

Broberg is 23, I don't see it as a waste of a pick at all. He was very good in the finals against the Panthers and has all the tools. I think the upside is massive and the downside minimal for the Blues.

Great job recognizing this, enormously underrated part of this move. Two well run organizations colluding to screw one that's...not

Blues made sure they made the max offer for the compensation bracket.

What I like about this is the message to Pissy that his teammates are going to look after their own interests and not take a million dollar haircut to stay with the oilers.
Draisaitl is out of touch with the bottom half of the roster.

This is amazing lol
So if Kane goes on LTIR through some BS reason does that leave enough room for Oilers to match or are they screwed even with that?

I suspect the Blues are hoping the Oilers will match one, and not be able to match the other. Remember when San Jose offersheet Hjalmarsson, and when Chicago matched they had to walk away from Niemi's arb award, and San Jose went and signed him?
