I think the Oilers will match Holloway but will let Broberg walk.
They can manuver 2.3 mil in cap space by trading away deadwood (with sweetner) like Ceci and Kulak, but 4.6 mil for Broberg? For 4 years? WTF is that?
But again, since the Coyotes have moved to Utah, they are no longer in the "take other teams' cap dump" mode anymore... So who will take the Oiler's deadweight?

This is fantastic.
I still don't understand why more teams don't do this every year. It's in the rule book for a reason. And in the highly competitive cap era this is a way to get an advantage(or put your competitor at a disadvantage). The Holloway deal seems completely reasonable. Broberg maybe not so much. Good on the Blues. Can't wait to see how this plays out.

I don't think either player is ready for a full time NHL gig but they have a bigger chance outside of Edmonton.

Glad someone had the balls to do it.
Little risk and an opportunity to screw over a trash org.

Broberg probably would have made their second pairing with Nurse, no?
So one of Kulak or Ceci will be a top 4 Dman for them? Lmao.

Gaskal gives us "Around the League Report" for Flames wins, maybe "Out of Town Report" should be used in instances like these?

Would the QO screw over the Oilers for signing McDavid?

When you think of the rest of the job it makes sense.
You need a working relationship with other GMs in order to best find value for assets.
You want to be in the loop.
But it doesn't hurt if you're well liked in the community when you need someone to say take some cap space to complete a deal.
I can see the blind side guy not getting the same looks as the place nice with others guy.

I assume the Blues really like the potential of these players.
When you have cap, it's a relatively cheap way of getting some extra talent into your organization.

And at two years each it's not much of a risk for the Blues. But just enough term to screw with the Draisaitl/McDavid negotiations.

I advocated the Flames to do it for Broberg and I would do that for any team in a second if cap space isn't a problem. The upside is huge and if he bombs you get out of the deal in two years.
