Regular Wrangler watchers...what's the prognostication on Kuznetzov? Is he looking like a future NHL defensive Dman?
His projection hasn't changed much since his draft, IMO. A big, smooth skating PK specialist that tops out at as a #5 at the NHL level. Offense for him is still elusive. Solovyov and Kuznetsov have a lot of similarities, Solovyov is just further along / more polished. It is clear the Flames scouts were hoping Kuznetsov would develop offensively to compliment his strong skating. That hasn't materialized, but you never know, he's only 21.

I love how many internal solutions the flames have uncovered.
At the start of camp no one could've predicted the flames were sitting on a lot of capable nhlers and guys that could slot in and do well in place of traded or injured regulars.
It gives a silver lining to the dark cloud this team was under. Things are much less bleak than we thought looking forward.
Even huberdeau is looking more like a player these days.
Leading scorer is looking like a player!
I know I know overpaid...he is still the leading scorer

Anyway, he's in a three-way tie for the lead.
The individual stats for this team are the most bizarre I can remember. No player has more than 15 points, but they have eleven (!) players with 10 or more. 11th place belongs to Zary, who, however, leads the team with 0.77 ppg.
No wonder fans have such trouble figuring out which is the first line.

which is a good thing IMO. We have been over-reliant on one line in the past ... I'd much rather have quality spread out over the lineup. Right now, it feels like different lines can take over at different times, and that is a positive. Once Pelletier is back, this is suddenly a pretty solid and deep forward group and you can mix and match however you please. Yeah, lines like Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk were awesome, but I'll take a deep lineup that spreads out quality over being over-reliant on this one line every day.
The thing with Huberdeau is that he has been struggling for large parts of the season, and yet he's still tied for the team lead (personally, I feel he should have been credited with an assist on Hanifins goal too). He's been much better lately (it can't be overstated what playing with Backlund and Coleman can do), so I hope he can rack up more points.

His scoring has fallen off a cliff this year compared to last, but the Wranglers as a whole are scoring a lot less than last year. Defensively he's strong, he's fast, he's not very physical. But he's still too young to really say how he'll turn out as a defenseman. I think late next season we'll have a good idea whether or not he's going to make it.

I think the fact that he is skating with the team is a pretty good indication that the plan is to get him back into games. I think that a lot of people are like me, expecting that we would never see him again, so yesterday was a huge, unexpected surprise. I had completely written off Kylingtons return as an option before yesterday.
